Default VP high idle and revs

    Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone has a solution to my current problem.

Ever since I bought my VP it has had high revs and the idle was too high. The old owner told me he tried to adjust the base idle with no luck and that the TPS was the culprit. I have since bought a new TPS and am looking at putting it in this weekend. If it doesn't help what should I do? The throttle body has been cleaned thoroughly as well as the current IAC and TPS.

The idle speed is at about 1200rpm when on either a cold or warm start. Cold start is sometimes higher. After letting the engine warm up, if i was to rev it a little the rpm will stick to 2000rpm. It's almost as if the ECU isn't getting notification that the throttle has been let off completely. So i'm thinking by changing the TPS it should fix the problem am I correct?

Also... What should the idle speed be when on both a cold and warm start?

I want to try and fix this problem over the weekend so any help would be great.. Thanks

Ok to start with you shouldn't have posted this before you changed it because it's most likely your problem as long as your car doesn't have LPG. And as far as warm and cold the idle should be around 650-850 mark

    Okay thanks mate,

I mainly wanted to know what the basic RPM levels should be before I change.

    It's a 3.8ltr v8 and runs high octane unleaded.

make sure its a v6 throttle body and not the 65mm v8 one. they look identical but the larger one will do this to your engine if its hasent been tuned... if its a v8 one it will say 65 on the butterfly or some where in the opening... when i bought my berlina it had the wrong one on it and i had this same problem... worth a quick look...
