Hey guys.. I put a minispool in my vp and I'm having a problem I think... When I turn right, it skips so bad that the whole car shudders.. But when I turn left, it skips a little, but hardly at all.. Both back tires are the same... Have I done something wrong?
Welcome to minispools. You will find if you have lowered the car it will shift the diff to one side. That's probably half the reason.
Welcome to the internet where people have opinions that you might not like
I was thinking could a worn shock absorber cause this?

I just noticed that my passenger axle is leaking, I tightened it as much as I can but still seems to be leaking a little.. Is there a certain way of installing them? Could that be the problem?
Of installing axles or mini spools? Is the axle leaking from around the hub? Could be seals, how long since you've done your bearings?

I'm talking about the axles.. It's leaking at the tire end.. I've never done the bearings, but in saying that, they aren't making any noises and they weren't leaking before I put the spool in..
something will be up with your suspension if it does that. What is the condition of the rear end bushes/ shocks?? I'm pretty sure ive made a comment in a spool thread before... that if you fit a spool all your bushes and shocks must be in new condition or else it will make all sorts of noises, and will drive weird. also they will tend to drive nicer and smoother on bigger rims i have found. on mine, 15s shudder like a mofo. 19's... beautiful!
The leaking of the axle seal happens from time to time... some seals are no good one they have separated from the housing. Two options... Tightarse: buy another axle and bolt it in, hope for the best. Proper: pull the axle out and fit a new seal.

I've got another 2 sets In my garage.. I'll give them a bash..
If I was to get one of those rear end bush upgrade kits, how long would they last with a spool?
genuine rubber replacement will prob be the most forgiving, comfort wise. but may only last a few years.
i have all nolathane. been like that for 3 years, no probs so far. but nolathane transfers more noise and vibes, and they are known to crack at times

Check panhard rod, have you got an adjustable one?
Also get used to the skipping.. Thats the whole point of a minispool. Just get on the brake to turn right. simple
yeh it's adjustable.. Have I got it adjusted wrong?
not too sure. if you didnt have one i would have suggested getting one.
Just beat up on it more.
I used to find that the wider the tyre - the less it would skip. But then i snapped axles... fun fun :|
Spools/locker diffs, will always make some sort of shudder/tyre skidding around turns due to the fact that the gear sets are locked and moving as one. both rear wheels spin at different speeds when turning around corners, eg, inner spins faster/outer spins slower and vise-versa. so this is where ur getting ur shuddering. my mate has a vr with a welded diff. and it shudders like crazy on sharp turns due to the fact that both rear drive shafs are turning at exact same speed. not allowing one wheel to slow down for cornering.

Check that out, very good video explaining how differentials work.
That's a great vid alright.
One thing they said though was the "low centre drive" aka hypoid diff that it was smoother and more rugged than a spiral bevel type. Not really true - trucks all use a spiral bevel diffs because there is less friction losses because less sliding motion between the teeth than a normal hypoid diff we all know and love.
