My 20amp fuse for the highbeams popped the first time after use, shortly aftr investigating in was the power wire for the high beams on the driverside shorting out on the earth spade terminal in the high beam globe housing, unfortunately encountered this problem a second time as my my highbeams failed while driving with them on for 10 minutes, the fuse had melted in its terminals, has any one got any ideas or solutions for me??
apparently the metal plate the fuse and relay housing sits on can sometimes cause a short circuit but there isnt any evidence of this happening as far as i can tell.. =) lol
Your not running 100 watt globes are you?

first you need to fix the shorts, easiest fix for the fuse is a couple of self resetting circuit breakers. (use new ones not second hand as they do get weaker and fail with age)
have done this to my vn, it's not pretty and was a rush job, i could've definitely made it neater if i'd taken more time.
(running 400Watts of h/beam globes no probs)

If you get proper globes you won't need to run massive wattage globes. The more watts you push through a halogen globe the hotter the filament.

personal preference, i like seeing at night and there's plenty of roo's on the roads i travel only reason i run higher wattage, the extra heat from the filament doesn't hurt anything.

I've never melted any wiring, where'd you get that from?
The only reason i put breakers in was the fuse holder itself was putrid and corroded, instead of messing around for an hour trying to clean it. This was an easier quicker fix as i had all the parts lying around, was a preventative maintenance step before something did happen.
Funny 4 years of running these globes the reflective chrome coating inside the headlight is still 100%, no distortion in the plastic, no cracks, flaking or bubbling visible.
Don't need high wattage globes to do this damage, i retired a vl years ago that I had fitted brand new genuine headlights from a holden dealer in it when i first registered it.
Used that car for 6 months till some tard ran into it, left it in a paddock, couple of years later they were flaking and were stuffed, left them in the car as i thought it was the safest place to keep them..
I wouldn't advise putting these globes in a newer car with it's plastic lenses it sure would mess them up.

I have thought about the circuit breakers just never liked the idea, not to shoot ya down. have you had any further issues with the circuit breakers?
can you possibly give me a general idea of how you wired the circuit breakers up. i will give it a crack, and where did you purchase them from??Autobarn??

just recently lol bored at work
I am also trying to repair me indicators they ar eblinking fast on the lhs if you have any suggestions
i tried putting an earth strap on either plugs and didnt bring them back to speed.
As said in your other thread it will be a bulb out.
Welcome to the internet where people have opinions that you might not like
yeh checked both bulbs they are fine, for arguments sake i replaced them, after the fact then checked them again, so.... yeh out of ideas
no real issues with the breakers (i just made a mess installing them, should've cut the posts down instead of breaking the bottom off the fuse box away)
Only draw back i've had is if i leave the h/beams on and engine running when the cars stationary (using it as a light source) after 20 mins or so they'll go off and back on due to no air flow and lack of cooling, never any issues when driving.
Don't mount them in a place close to the exhaust (the heat will cause issues) 10 years of using them for this purpose and that's all i can think of going wrong.
as for wiring as per the pic above, don't mix the wires up or you'll have l/beam on when you want high, no biggie if this happens just unbolt 2 wires and swap em around to fix.
