Hey i just tried to remove my starter motor from my 5 liter VN calais series 1 so it has the rely big starter motor ive got it unbolted but cant get it through any gap either the extractors or the steering rack gets in the way. if i lift the motor an inch i could get it out but i dont rely want to any other way?
I was under my Calais vn about 2 hours ago looking the starter too and was wondering how would that fit out.. Are you putting the same size back in.
im hopeing to get a series 2 starter to put back in because there smaller and i wont have to #### around next time
I have hear that you can get a smaller starter that fits but was not sure from what model or series..
Any aftermarket one is smaller.
Ive got one at home and its pretty small.
Undo engine mount and lift motor is possibly easiest way... Mind you saying that i never had a problem with mine.
I got one out of a VS and a VL without undoing or lifting anything. You need to undo the wiring first, then rotate it and tilt the back up and then it slides back and comes out.
Cheers, I put a gear reduction starter in the VP Senator, much easier to fit in but is noisy. LOLThink you young blokes would like it.
Very small [see pics in link] compared to the original but I am very happy with it. Regards gaz
VP Senator Starter
I was able to get my high torque starter out from underneath with hurricane extractors on the 355. It makes some noises when starting with that starter tho!
