Hi,
To my never ending frustration with my VN, it seems that I have killed my second external fuel pump in about 3 weeks.
The car has just had a 85 liter tank installed, and the original wiring to the original in tank pump, has been modified to run the two new pumps (replicating the factory VN v8 setup.
What could be killing a brand new pump like this, car has never had a tank load of fuel below 1/4. Also before this pump died today, it was making a high pitched noise...
The two pumps are genuine Holden and are not aftermarket. Is there too much pressure from this duel pump setup???
The new leak happens even when the car is turned off. Petrol leaks out for about 10mins, all this shows though is that the new pump is stuffed..
Can anyone help me with this???
It's driving me insane!
are you running a lift pump in the tank , is there a swirl pot still be used in the tank and a return line
Yes there is a swirl pot. It's also got the return line. It's a direct copy of the VN V8 setup, cos the tank is from a 1990 VN Calais V8.
are there two pick up lines or just one line then T-pieced to run the twin pumps ?
the output from the external runs straight through the external , you might need to adjust the fuel regulator on the external. in saying that was the tank clean?
After looking at the pump setup in the cold light of day...
It seems that the two lines to the tank from the external pump are ok, one may have a pin hole leak, but the line that goes from 8mm to 12mm into the tank has a small hole... Cannot seem to find a brand new line anywhere, holden don't sell it and it's not available in any type of EFI rated hose.
Currently trying to track down some adapters to try...
Will everyone know.
Also external pump is defiantly rooted, and will be replaced.
Most hoses where replaced when this tank was first installed... Having a bad run of luck it seems.
So close to sticking the 65 liter tank back in...
After lots of ####ing around, I have replaced EVERY SINGLE F&$@ING hose at the rear of the car. Everything is genuine and only one hose I had difficulty with. It was not available anywhere, so adapters where used on that one hose.
The external pump was replaced for piece of mind as well.
So far this seems to have fixed the leaking fuel problem.
So if any one has a problem like this, hopefully this thread will help.
Just in case anyone looks up this thread in a years time, only problem I've had, is when the fuel tank gets below 1/3 the external pump starts making a loud noise. When the tank is filled, the noise goes away.
Thank you to everyone who jumped in with any ideas or tips. They have been much appreciated.
Cheers fellas
