Hey everyone, i have bought a my first Holden woohoo
its a 1993 VP S
now i have two issues that i would like to bring up
Hard to start when cold, i will sit there turning the engine over for a good 15 seconds to fire but when she does its fine i can turn it off and on again straight away no problem, which makes me think its a fuel primer problem? do these have them built into the fuel pump? or maybe some kinda fuel pressure loss...
all i know is the last owner had the factory alarm bypassed because it was frustrating to get it to work as the range was terrible, is there anyway you can help fix this im thinking about putting a new batt into the remote and wire it back but is this a common fault with this model?
the last owner said the car never struggled to start before he had it bypassed too, although im not to sure he was telling me the truth
its a great car tho runs really well i love the puuurrrrr sound it gives off and to much room!! i owned a mr2 before this and its totally different
anyway any help would be great the car is going to an auto electrician tomorrow as its got a power drain somewhere too as it goes flat within a week but that could be anything
Cheers
Jared
Start with a service spark plugs leads oil and oil filter air filter and fuel filter if it still has problems then change the battery with a new one and then if it still takes long to start look at the coil pack and fuel pump but should be fine after the service also run a dose of injector cleaner in the tank after you service it
find the fuel pump relay and prove its working, if its not the fuel pump wont power up till the oil pressure switch makes, the fuel pump relay will only turn on while cranking.
u should be able to re-enable the alarm with a key. there is a keyhole where the door hinges on the passengers side.
in the engine bay
Its one of the relays near the battery It wont be the fuse if the pumps running when the oil pressure switch makes as they are the same circuit. (r7 4th relay along in the back row guess?)
note the fan relay is different to the fool pump relay. the fuel pump relay is a common bosh 30 amper
Ok
So gave the car a once over with the auto electrician last night, turns out the power drain is the fuel pump, the only time the amps drop off is when i pull the fuel pump fuse, the relay seems fine.
any idea why its doing this? im gonna get stuck into the fuel pump this weekend, also where is the fuel pump located? lol
cheers
disconnect or replace the oil sender unit (just above and to the left of the harmonic balancer) and see if the power drain stops, it won't be the fuel pump it'll be something in the circuit feeding it and my $1 bet is on the oil sender
or someone really botched bypassing the immobilizer
is this the wire thats above the oil filter?
i tried that one anyway,
so im guessing now that its the immobilizer wires, as i had a look down the side of the passenger side and i can see that someone has had a play with the wires.
does anyway have a wireing diagram for down there? its pretty tight and looks like an ass of a job
bump, anyone got the wiring diagram? or maybe an online manual
my email addy is hedgesjared@hotmail.com
Ok.
So im getting pretty good with the wiring on this car but still not sorted
Found the Immobiliser bypass the old owner has hooked up to the orange wire, which is live all the time rather then the ign wire, which would have been living up the ecu as well im thinking, anyway thats part of my power drain taken care off
ive had a look at the relay and fuse for the fuel pump and even swapped the relay with another as they are all the same on that board.
im still yet to test the oil pressure sensor which is still a possibility, but im gonna have a look at the actual fuel pump as well, can anyone tell me where its located and how to get at it?
thanks
Jared
The fuel pump is located in your fuel tank. There is an inspection plate on your tank which faces your diff. You need to siphon as much petrol as you can out of the tank then jack it up at the rear and remove the inspection plate. Be extra careful when removing the pump assembly as it has a float attached that you may damage. If you have the pump out it would be a good idea to replace it.
