I just got a VP, The last owner has snaped the flywheel bolts and has replaced all, But he couldnt get 2 out and die grinded them out, Is there any possible way to refread theam and fix them up, And having it running safely?
Or would i have to replace the whole crank sharft?
recoil/helicoil thread repair kits, providing when the die grinder attacked it the holes aren't offset/out of round now.
theres not enough to get an easy out in? so he just ground off what was sticking out? cause if thats the case you should be able to drill and easy out the remaining bolt....
dont sweat the petty... pet the sweaty...
On this subject the Gregory's manual and the Haynes manual have different methods of torquing the bolts up on the flywheel (for an auto, manual might be different) and I reckon the Gregory's is the go. I started to snap bolts with the Haynes method which gets expensive given the cost of $70 for a set of flywheel bolts. Gregory's says to torque to 18-22 Nm and then a further 70 degrees using an angle gauge. Easy to make up a gauge in cardboard that does the job. Haynes says torque to 75-90 Nm but the thread sealer I used acts as a lubricant and I felt the bolts snapping long before I got to those specs. My Gregory's is for a VP and my Haynes is for VR VS, My ride is a VP with a VR motor installed. Anyone else had similar experience?
