my V8 auto box is stuffed :-( it flares out between every gear and if you give it a bootfull it doesnt hold the load, the engine just revs out.
so far i've been quoted $1600 for a reco fitted, $1500 to get mine reco'd, or $1250 for a wrecker's exchange + $600 fitting.
i've been told by some folks it's so expensive because the series 1 has a unique crank shaft fitting.
i was wondering if anyone has had an auto to manual conversion done on a series 1 vn 5 litre, and what the cost might be?
or some way to get my auto fixed without forking out near on 2 grand?
thanks,

I think the crankshaft being different only applies to the V6
so any GM Turbo HydraMatic 700 (THM700) will fit?
ie any VN or VP V8 box?
If you want to go manual. You can buy an adapter plate that allows the manual flywheel onto an Auto Engine.
But whatever you like best.
I am not sure about V6 fitting a V8 or vice versa. If you have a v8 I suggest to stick with V8 gear.
Yours Kindly,
Jim
i'll be sticking with the V8 box... i just dont know if i can use any V8 box or if i have to use a series 1 VN box.
what else is needed for the manual conversion? an adapter plate, a clutch pedal, clutch cable...

clutch and brake pedal bracket
tailshaft (they are different lengths)

once you change all that you need to find the auto selector switch and ground the neutal/park switch in order to start the car
