Wont shift to second!!

Hey people,

Just recently my VN wagon refuses to shift into second (its auto)...

Its like it skips it and goes straight to third, when i accelerate from standstill 1st revs right out to 50k's before it will change, and when it does it goes straight to third....

If I approach traffic lights and shift down to 2 and accelerate a little theres nothing , like its in nuetral....

Does this sound familiar to anyone? If it does what sorta price do u think im up for to fix it?

Before you go out paying for a new box, try changing the fluid. No doubt if its never been changed, it'll be black. Try that, and if no luck, you wasted $20. Better than wasting 1000 for a new box if it could've been fixed by changing the fluid first.

Hey thanks for the input but i just went and checked the dipstick for the trans and the colour was a medium brown colour!

Any other suggestions?

Anyone have a average price for a Vn auto box?

I would say that your second gear clutch is farqued....

I lost third(and fourth) in the munro after towing a load that was prol to heavy.... when it shifted to third no drive at all..... just felt like neutral.... seems the same.... However strange that it will get to third... Change the gearbox......
Lucky mate has gearbox shop and the fix was free.... Well almost I fixed his PC..... Love those bater deals....

yeah i had that problem in my VN. Changed the fluid and it was all good after that. Something like dextron 3 i think from memory. someone will tell you what fluid to use but hope to god it works.

Dextron III it is.

And i have had that problem, hence why i sugggested what 'might' solve your problem. the fluid should be red, med brown means the fluid is dirty, and has every chance thats whats making the box play up.

there is a good chance that your 2nd gear solenoid has died on you and this will mean that u require a new box, there is a chance that the valvebody is stuffed and u can replace these for a couple of hundred bucks. best advice go to a tranny shop and get them to go on a road test with u they will give u an idea strait away

Happened with me with the 3>4 clutch. Damn over-expensive overdrive automatics... I mean a recond. new trimatic would be like $800 installed...

hence why i changed my car to manual, cheaper, and lets face it, most peopel would rather a manual over a 'stock' recond auto.
