Hey, ive got an 88 VN exec. auto and my motor wont start unless i give it some accelerater while turning the key, and once its on its ok when im reving but as soon as a take my foot of the accelerater it just stalls on idle.
Does anyone have any suggestions to what the problem is
not really sure, but with those symptons im guessing fuel injectors are gone?
Hi.Pull out the engine fuse. located in engine bay.For 15-20 sec. Replace fuse make sure air con is turned OFF start engine and rev engine to 3000 rpm approx and hold there for 10 sec. all should be reset and idle fine.
it ended up being something to do with the ISU
Can I ask what is the ISU.
Cheers,
Jim
Yours Kindly,
Jim
what is a isu? this has got me stumped
i am the god of britany spears womanizer on just dance on the wii
id say they mean icu
three thing in life are guaranteed
taxes

and car repairs
sorry guys for confusing u, yes i meant ICU
Shouldn't it be a IACV on a VN?- Idle Air Control Valve.
ICU- Idle Control Unit? Mind you it's a decent acronym for the bugger, they do require intensive care when constantly getting covered in blow by.
Hi there all,
Mine also stalls sometimes when on idle, so that means my ICU might me faulty.
Where is the ICU located??
How do I check it???
Regards,
Arty
Since ive got my car fixed i seem to be going through fuel alot quicker , i reckon it'd be up to something like 15k/L, well thats what it feels like anyway
not 15k/l, i mean 15L/100Km
did u find out what icu is and where it is located i have the same problem
darn EFI motors. a carbed would never have these starting problems (with a pull choke)ICU- Idle Control Unit? Mind you it's a decent acronym for the bugger, they do require intensive care when constantly getting covered in blow by
but go the efi for its bit of extra power![]()
The mentioned ICU, is actually the IACV (Idle Air Control Valve), it's found on firewall side of the throttle body. If you remove the throttle body it's quite easy disassemble and clean, about 30mins max job. Doesn't hurt to get new throttle body gaskets either- less than $5 for both from Holden Genuine.Originally Posted by murri_rose
