    Default moral support

    hey guys,

theres no real question in this thread, but hers my story.
i got a vn series2 lexcen from my dad, it hadent been driven for a while coz he lost his liscense for 3 years..i wanted it, he gave it to me for 6 dollars. my mum just wanted to get rid of it.
she hates it, it resembles things about there broken marriage(stupid i know).
so her i am with not an extensively huge knowledge abuot cars.
my mum just thinks im gonna fail about getting it up to road worthy and getting it registered...and of course making it faster and better looking.
im only 16 and i odnt have a job at the moment, so things arent going quik.

my mum keeps giving me shit about getting it towed away, and telling me its just a piece of shit.

what do u guys think..is it worth it, or am i wasting my time...i love cars, and iw ant it more than nething..so i can have a vn..and so i can throw it back in my mums tight ass face and say shut the **** up, and rip a burnout in her drive way..not that i or justcommodores condone that sort of thing....

so guys. i need you to say something for moral suport, to keep me on track, coz at the moment im losing the battle.

ne suggestions would b helpfulla swell...thanks guys, at least ur on my side..hopefully....

    hey champ

where to begin, thats' right, ill start at the begining,

you throw away the vn commodore ill fly to where eve ryou are and inflict heaps of pain, great large amounts of pain, it will be so painfull you wont even feel the pain. ill do rude things to yoru chickens (if you dont have chickens get some so i can voilate them) lol, hahahhahahaha

serioulsy champ, if you want your car road worthy and ready for rego, fly threw the fourm and have a little read, there are tips and all sorts of goddies everywhere on the forum. there are also some cheap mods you can do yourself, some arnt very hard, one which springs to mind is the old bellmouth removal trick, people will say it's no good, people will swear by it, it's a personal choice thing, only realy figure it out when it's done, but it's a start. other cheap mods are mem-cal re mapping, and interior work, like painting, changing over instrument clusters to have the tacho dash. get otu there every day and start it, ask your mum to take you for drives in it, like around the backyard or something, get to know all there is about the car.

there are so many things you can do to that car that the list is endless, it depends on personal choice, just take yoru time, and ask lots of questions, take photos of it as you do it, and keep a little journal somewhere, keep it visible so your mum can see it, mums are funny creatures, they alway's say they will throw something out, but you show your interested in it, and she wont.

so the best thing to do is keep it, learn from it, play with it, get into it, and have a ball doining it, dont get dishartend, sometimes it can take a little bit of time, a good start would be to get a part time job somewhere, like macca's, save up as much as you can and play with your car,

but some photos would be nice for us to see, if you want help, that is what this forum is for, and if members dont help, ill kick them in the balls

    cheers

VN's will last forever if you look after them.

Take your time and use this car to learn about things, see how they built it. A trick for taking stiff apart (cars, videos anything), somewhere someone was paid a lot of money to make sure that this product could be assembled easily, the dissasembly/repair was a secondary consideration. So when you are stuck pulling something apart instead of trying to work out how something is pulled apart, try and see how it was made.

Go to the local library and read up on car repair, most libraries have gregories and more general car books.

Mate 16 is tough, most of us have been there, just try and keep your head.

Is this the same Mum you're talking about that carried you around for 9 months then went to the hospital and had your ungrateful body tearing through her.

I know this isn't what you wanted to hear and you are probably annoyed that she whinges but it would be nice to see a bit of respect for your Mum.

I had a HQ panel van I was going to do up when I was 16, sat in the driveway for 2 years until it was towed away ,because I was more interested in girls and my EH holden. My Mum told me it was a waste of space too , and she was right

Explain to your Mum , that you are serious about this project and you want her to support you, ask her if she can help you.

Show her that it isn't the cars fault about her marriage.

Yes the VN2 was detuned to give it less torque off the mark, they also made the idle less rough. But remember that that was some 200000KM ago. Now all the VN1 has going for it is a real pain for a thermostat placement.

2 wrongs don't make a right mate...at the end of the day you have your morals and dignity to hold high...you will be a better person for respecting her in the long run...

sounds like ya mums having a rough trot or somethin... I'm sure she wants your happiness... as has been said before, take more of an interest in it, sleep in there with your girlfriends, polish it, got a 'my mum rocks' sticker for it or somethin...

for *%*^&%ks sakes don't lose sight of the importance of having a good 'ol holden, look after it and she'll be more reliable than some women I have known!!!

(don't get me wrong, I love my missus)... & there are some dodgy blokes out there, - I know.

Can you store the car at a mates place?
By the sound of it your Mum is on the other computer as we speak looking up on the internet "The Anarchists Handbook" for how to make explosives

Sounds like she really does hate it.
You have to change her belief that the car is possessed by the devil.

She sounds like she has gone through a lot of pain and is venting her anger on the car, hopefully not you.Show her that you care about her feelings but the car is important for you and has nothing to do with the situation.

I might have to start up a "Ask the Psychologist" we already have a Ask the Copper and a Ask the Cabbie on JC

ok guys, this thread is about a young fella wanting to learn about holdens, let's not turn this into a debate of morals and treating mums or dads with respect, think back to wh en you were a kid, i bet at some stage, you would have said something nasty about your mum or dad, now back on topic, dont let t his get side tracked

They put a plastic restrictor thing in the throttle body, a changed cam lift , some computer changes too, probably some other things too.

^^^ hear hear. (EDIT: this is to garth, I type too damn slow)

The VN2 was detuned in two ways (as best I know) Holden changed the exhaust manifold to be the abomination of tubes as opposed to the extractor type thing that S1 had. Also there is a restrictor in the air intake to smooth things out in the S2. I tell you these things out of interest as at the moment your job is to get a good car, not a hell raiser (sorry old fart talking there but lets crawl before we start to sprint)

Dude, what needs doing to the car to get a road worthy, don't worry about anything else except that, then the car is worthy of being in the yard. road worthy stuff usually doesnt' cost much, just a bit of time getting things right and maybe some cheap parts. Tells us whats busted

Geez I agree have you got any mates with big backyards.
To get it road worthy, well you will need to find out. If the car was to be blue slipped or pink slipped. Or to pass rego. What will fail the checks.
Check for worn bushes, ball joints. Wipers/washers, all lights working. Good tread on tyres. No rust. Seat belts all intact. Make sure your exhaust doesn't leak into the cabin.
Brakes work good enough to pass brake test
    Wheel bearings too.

As suggested, talk to people you may know who are mechanically minded, they might be able to help you out on how to check for ball joint problems, etc.
Get hold of a Gregory's book for the VNs. Library. This site.
Basically jack your car up, try to move the the front tyre with your hands, try side ways and up & down movements. But unless you know what your feeling for it's a bit hard to see whether you have loose ball joints or bushes gone.
But the wheel shouldn't have any movement at all. Unless you move it enough to move the steering wheel of course.

Good luck to you, all the best.

If I were you I would be doing one job at a time so that the car doesnt end up in a million bits. Im sure once she sees the car making progress life will be a bit easier.

d00d once your mother realises its a hobby and it keeps you out of her hair.. she will be happy! she wont have a nagging 16 year old kid hangin around the house all the time. Strip it down and clean it up nice, spend all your time cleaning & detailing it, show her that you are dedicated to your hobby! tell her it gets you out of the house and you are setting your mind to something that you enjoy!.

I know.. because ive been through it too.

    Cheers
