need some advice

hi all ive just turned 17 and am getting my p plates in the next week. im looking to buy a car probably a commodore because of their reliability and their relatively decent performance. one of my old automotive teachers is selling a vn 1991 executive model which he has purchased and done up. when he bought it it had been in a crash and the front shock tower was slightly damaged, as well as some slight passenger door damage. he has fixed these problems and is offering to sell it to me. the car has done 315000 km's and has a new water pump, radiator, tyres and all the tubing and pipework in the engine bay has been replaced. it also has an upgraded stereo system and the exhaust system has been modified to a 3 inch pipe. hes a mechanic by trade and he says its in good nick and shouldnt need any work for a while, and he says the engine is running fine and will tick over for a fair while yet. im inclined to believe him but im just curious whether what he says about the engine is true, and whether it is easy to find replacement engines for a vn model, incase it does wear out or something goes wrong. he is asking $2500 any information or tips you have would be immensly appreciated, thanks. caillim
