VN struts

Where there at all any VN models that had bonnet or boot struts, i know vps do. Is it an easy job to install struts particularly boot struts i hate the whole whip action thing.

yes the calais has bonnet struts,as for boot struts no....only the wagon has them,tailgate/rear cargo door struts
wouldn't be that hard to install on bonnet,there is holes already in the bonnet for the struts,you just have to find the threaded nut to weld to bonnet,and also the guards + the nipples to screw into the threaded nuts so struts will then snap on and hold in place with clips usually supplied with struts.

mines a 91 model......maybe urs is a mod? not sayin it is or maybe optional?

must be then,but the other calais i have worked on had them as well,but they were 7/90 to the last or the 91 models with series 2.

my vn ss 1990 has not got bonnet struts

but it HAS got boot struts

Ok i checked it and it was built 31 July 91

well thats just it according to you,your calais didn't come with bonnet struts,and yet mine did,and the others iv'e worked on did also,my calais is a 8/90,as for when the last of the VN's were made i couldn't tell you off the top of my head .
so whether mines been put on...i don't know
as for yours,yours may have been taken off,because they can get in the way when working in engine bay...easy way to tell is look for a hole on the inner edges of your bonnet and if theres a hole either side of bonnet with threads...yours had them and someones taken them off

dude i just got a pair of bonnet struts today for my vn $20 for the pair with all the ball cups and brackets. on the bonnet there is a round hole about half way up(one end goes in here) and the other mount is a triangle piece that mounts to from memory the third bolt from front on the gaurd. sorry no pics i will try to post some when i install them tonight. apparently the hard part is doing up the nut under the bonnet shell.

sorry guys i left my damn car keys at work so i cant get into the car to pop the bonnet and take pics.

If anyone knows how to open a bonnet from outside would be good or how to get into my car(pm me)

You should be able to reach under the front bumper and reach the striker pin with some multigrips, or you chould wait til you get you keys back

I think glass is smashable, not sure. Uhh brain hurt!
