Default Gently remove leaf cover from the firewall?

I'm trying to check the fan resistors because no. 4 isn't working.

To do this i need to get the leaf guard off.

I've removed the wipers and pulled off the clips attaching the cover to the bottom of the windscreen.

The other end of the cover seems to be attached to what I'm assuming is the firewall.

There's a bit of rubber along the top of this 'firewall' and the leaf cover seems to go in underneath it. According to the manual i should gently remove the leaf cover from the firewall.

Doing stuff gently isn't accomplishing much. Am I missing something. Should i just pull hard?

Sure if you want to break the plastic it's very fragile and alot of VN's have a broken one, do like the manual says, gently remove it

That's the point. I can't see what I should be doing.

Am I pulling in the right direction, at the right angle?

How am I meant to know what to do?

Greenfoam, if there was an award for the most unhelpful reply then I would nominate you.

If you had just told me that the bit of rubber was a part of the leaf guard and that it all came out as one piece you would have saved me a lot of stuffing around.

Instead you made a smart arse and unhelpful comment.

What bit of rubber? I thought you were talking about the plastic bit that's fragile, the rubber is not part of it

There are little pastic clips holding the brittle plastic in place. If you get a pair of pliers on to them you should be able to remove each clip individually and the black plastic should lift off fairly easily then.

And Foam is right on the money, pull it hard and you're going to end up with a lot of small plastic pieces. He did help you out. If you hadn't of read it you might have damaged the whole thing. Be thankful.

Sorry about the earlier outburst. I was pretty wound up after fiddling for ages trying to work out how to get the front end of the leaf guard off. Obviously everyone else must hit difficulty with the other 'fragile' end (Which took some care but otherwise came off pretty easy.).

Both of you must have skimmed over my original post and assumed I was having trouble with that 'fragile' end. I still should have stayed cool though, I know you guys don't get paid for helping and I appreciate any efforts you give.

To clarify, I was having trouble removing the leaf guard from where it attaches at the front. It's very easy to remove once you realise that the rubber part along the top of the firewall is part of the leaf guard and not part of the firewall as I had first assumed.

No worries but the rubber seal is not part of it, the rubber just peels off, then there is the metal little clips that hold it on, I guess everyone with a VN has had to pull that off to replace a busted wiper assembly? I know I have , My brother broke that plastic on his VS with a bit of inspired cornering one day, yes just goes to prove he needs a strut brace

I'm talking about the OTHER side of the leaf guard, the end that butts up against the engine bay.

I have had the thing off and put it back on now. Now that I know how it's done it's all so simple.
