need some help on a vp v6 gear box

hey ppls how are u all i have a vp engine and gear box wat i need to know is there are 2 plugs on the gearbox one is a sqaure one and 1 goes to the speedo sensor the speedo sensor has three wires to it where do they go from there? (the engine and box are going into my 4runner) ive heard a few things on this 1 of them was if those wire arnt connected it wont idle and the torgue convertor doesnt lock in? is this true ? or is it full of crap? i have to convert it to take cable speedo not electronic one any help would be highly appreiciated o

The square plug is for the lock up convertor and the other one is as you said for the speed sensor. If you dont hook these plugs the torque convertor wont lock and the ECU wont know when the vehicle is moving. The speed sensor plays a vital role in setting fuel trims and such peramaters in the ecu. You can buy a T piece that screws on to the trans, one output is for the speedo sensor and the other output is for a speedo cable.
