    Thumbs down fuel pump probs

    hey

i think my fuel pump has/is sh*tting itself! i had just filled the tank up with vortex and when on the freeway, was at about 100 when i needed to over take, so i tried to accelerate but it didnt want to and there was a whining noise coming from the back end. the car was idleing fine and was not over heating or anything. got home with no more complains. so would this be fuel reg or fuel pump? i no the reg needs changing but the pump im not too sure as i think it was changed about 2 years ago.

    cheers

Fuel pumps tend to work, or not, there's not much of a grey area with them. If you car didn't want to accelerate, I'd start by checking your plugs/leads, and then check the fuel system. Because if it's running okay except for that one time, I'd look at the ignition system first.

Try to get your tank under 1/4 saves draining a lot of fuel out.

I,m doing a pump tomorrow, looks a P.o.P , 6 X 8mm bolts and a couple of hoses , no need to remove the tank.
Mine has been intermittent, sometimes would whine, sometime car wouldnt start and there was no sound from the fuel pump even when bypassed . Bang on the tank and it would start buzzing again, so I'm sure its the pump.

Priced some today. genuine Holden $342.00
    Fuelmiser $ 99.00 from ebay
    Some no-name brand $ 69.00 from ebay
Goss from auto shop $ 90.00

yeah i hope it aint too hard, the only thing is if it dies when i have a full tank that will be annoying! anyway it has been running ok so i will just keep an eye on it. back to worrying about my sway bar bushes and parcel shelf.

    cheers

if you still got probs... just discon the fuel hose near the engine, put on some fuel line, discon ignition, tun on the ignition key and watch the fuel from into a plastic bucket, put your finger or thumb over the end of the hose to check there's good fuel preasure there...
