my question is just how much more up and go has a vn/vp v8 got over a vn v6. ive herd a lot of people say that the vn/vp v8's go like a rocket and at the same time ive herd a lot of people say while yes they are good they are not that much better than a good old vn v6.
anyone out there like to comment that actually knows... pref from experience lol.
i aks becouse i have a vn v6 (i think series one car with a series 2 engine. was like it when i baught it) and it flys like a rocket especially from a stand still. i also have a vp v6 with lpg and wether i run it on gas or on petrol it is very slugish compared to the vn. i am looking at picking up a v8 but if it is not gona be much difference to my vn v6 i might as well just fix up the vn.
Ok I have them both in my driveway , both with the same mods, the VN series one V6 runs 0-60 mph in 6.95 and the VP V8 does it in 6.05, both cars weigh about 1380kgs (the VN is a Lexcen so a bit heavier than a Holden executive). The difference in power goes like this, the VN V6 is quick but it doesn't have the excess power you need to smoke the tires at will, the V8 does, the V6 uses lots less fuel, the V8 sounds heaps better. If I was sensible I'd just be happy with the V6, but the V8 has a big time cool factor, although it doesn't get any looks from young hoons like a VP V8 would have 10 years ago, not sure what's happened to the young generation think they all like fluro green hondas
hahaha yeah seems to be the way now tiny little sh#T boxes in some fluro green or such.
thanx for the feed back. i thought that would be about the case with them. my vp v6 (toyota lexcen) has lpg fitted so ill put that on the vn/vp v8 i pickup to make it a little cheaper to run. since you have both the v6 and the v8 i can ask you whats the difference in fuel used between them?
If your driving on the highway the VN does about 10l per 100 with my 225 tires, was under ten with 205's. The VP does like 12 or 14l per 100, but it has huge 235's all round, I'll expect that to drop down to 11l/100 once I get the car sorted out. But the V8 sucks the fuel like there is no tomorrow around town and if you give it some stick, on LPG it would be choice!: )
Biggest tip I can give you if performance is the main aim, is buy an Executive 5 liter, the difference and weight and performance over a Calais or Statesman is massive, a stock Executive is at least half a second quicker over the 1/4 mile than a Calais, even a Berlina would be quite a bit slower, stick a passenger in mine and it's no where near as mean off the line
Depends what's your aim, the Statesman seats are niiiiiiiice, executives are pov , but you would need to spend like 2 grand on a Statesman to make it as fast as a stock Executive, so you have to think about that (and how fast an executive would be with the same money), do I want poshness or speed that's the question, you would pick up more girls in the Statesman I rekcon :P. But if you allready have the right girl then you don't really need a posh seat, can get a nice sofa for your house instead of the mods you will need on the Statesman ?:?
