    Default New Member Introduction

    Hello all...

Just found this site as i have just bought myself a VN 5.0 Calais to do up and wish to learn about this beast of a car......

I have recently sold a 2003 ba xr8 that i worked up to 345kw at the fly.....

I want to get some nice gains out of this car, but keep the spend to a minimum as i have lost sooooooooo much money modifying cars its not funny!!!

Anyway, hope to see you around!

    Dave

Hey, Dave doesn't the VN feel terribly slow after the BA? do you like the sound of the 5 liter Holden better?

No offence, but i think you lost out on the deal, unless you made a profit. Unless the BA was that babyshit colour, then you did well!

What you planning for the Calais?

LOL the XR8 was great..... but i was losing on it every month (i paid 60k when they first came out and 20k on mods.....) was time to bite the bullet and take it on the chin like a man.....

It was a beast, it would light up at 60-70kms/hr if i booted it..... but alas it is in the past...

GF, i love the sound of the 304( is that right?) but it still has a standard system on it......

I am putting a pod on it this weekend, and plan to run some ducting from the bumper air dams to the pod..... eventually i will put a 2.5 inch cats back system on it and a memcal upgrade..... but as i bought it for a song i dont want to throw too much at it just yet..... still hurting from the xr8!!!!!

Have to agree with the last 2 posts

A pod just gives you 'hot' air, obviously no good for an NA motor!

Dont go V8 CAI get the Vs superchaged one, its abit bigger because the V8 one has less room to work with.

i though the only difference was the HSV ones had the symbol on them, and the V6/V8 were the same, but without the logo.

    woooooooooooo dudes,
The SC V6 CAI and the VS series II V8 one are totally different and unless you install thermo fans on the V8 and pull the fan shroud off you have to run the VS series II V8 one which is an exact copy of the earlier HSV one but has no HSV logo. You can do some magical things to the V* one if you have a heat gun, it doesn't turn out pretty but as you know, I have a care factor of zero. zero for anything that looks pretty but does nothing or something that doesn't do you job as good as it could, with a bit of tweaking, see attached pictures

Yes the first pictures are the V8 one, but fairly heavily modified, normally the opening is only about 1cm mines like 4? cm in places

    mmm cai

by brother put my car on the site a few days ago, i think its in the v8 development section. There's a vid with a few dyno runs.
i pulled 146rwkw with cai then the mechanic disconnected it and i pulled just under 151rwkw. 5kw increase. the cai is good but very restrictive. we did 2 power runs with it off and both gave that 5kw xtra. the cai doesnt allow enough air to flow. and yes im running a k&n filter. im actually in the process of changing the setup.

    2 ideas:
1)block off hole in air box that goes to cai and cut a 100mm hole staight through bottom of box and through the guard.

2)run flexi tube from throttle body to a k&N pod filter cut hole in side of engine bay and place pod half out under guard. either way i should pick up 1-2 rwkw over the cai.

just my 2 cents worth but i do have the dyno run to prove it

How do you know that any of them two will be better than the CAI setup? do you have dyno figures of them other setups?

will have dyno figures in next few weeks as soon as mod is done.
Going by what the 1-2rwkw is going by what the mechanic said i should get with doing either of the mods. Basically less bends equals greater air flow more power.

When we did the test without the cai we disconnected the cai from the filter box and ran the test. Less optimal then doing either mod but he was just curious to the power differece that it would do. would it be more or less. it was way more.
