    Question Water Pumps?

Hey guys I have a problem with my cooling system. My water pump is leaking and I have been told I need a new one. Are water pumps hard to change in a VP Calais. Also would I be better off if i spent a little extra and got an Electric waterpump? What would be an advantage to doing this and are they hard to install, I here they are a do it yoursle thing but is there much work involved. I need help asap because I cant drive until the problem is fixed.
    Thanx guys.

I just replaced my water pump last week. VN with the VP V6. Piece of piss to do yourself. I paid about $80 for the pump from Repco.

    1) Park car where coolant spillage will be no problem (or use a drip tray)
    2) Remove accessory drive belt.
    3) Undo bolts on water pump pulley to get access to all other bolts.
    4) Undo all other bolts & remove pump.
    5) Clean old gasket off engine block, be thorough. Also clean all around where the pump goes to make it easy to detect new leaks once done.
    6) I used aircraft loctite on the new gasket (doesn't dry) Make sure you don't leave gaps in the sealant on the gasket. Wait until it's tacky before putting gasket on engine block.
    7) Put another layer of aircraft loctite sealant on outside of gasket, wait until tacky again and then place new water pump on carefully and bolt up.
    8) Put pulley back onto pump and replace accessory drive belt.
    9) Fill up with fresh coolant, be sure to run engine with heater on and breather nut (on top of thermostat housing - top hose) open until fluid comes out, then tighten. Check fluid levels and check for leaks for the next few days. Job should take no longer than about 1 hour.
edit: 10) Open beer, empty into suitable orrifice.
Noise elimination I call it. Find noise, eliminate it. That's all I ever seem to be doing.
