My boyfriend has just fitted a vn engine to my vp the head was drilled to allow for crankcase ventillation is there any other mods that should be performed as it intermittently blows clouds of smoke which is blue in colour and smells just like burning oil. I am thinking it has to be either rings (the motor had been sitting around for about a year or so but still rotated fine comp tested at 150 psi on each cyl cold) or a problem with PCV system. any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
With the smoke coming out, does it come out at idle, or only when the engine is under load (ie. full throttle)?
Gravity is proof that nature keeps getting us down.
thanks 4 quick reply
smokes(were talking thick smoke) under light load and sometimes at idle
thought about inlet manifold leak but it idles at 750rpm and very smooth.

crankcase, ventilation. you could have a clogged air filter, and the motor is trying to suck from else where i.e crankcase and blowing oil during the process. your rings are wearing out indicated by blue tinge smoke at idle, under light load but gets thinner under heavy loads. blue smoke on startup is valve stem seals. easy to fix but pricy. these dry out and don't seal, after the car has been sitting oil drips down from the rockers past the valve and into the cylinders on startup it blows smoke then clears.
you said you have a vp inlet manifold. that is fine. is the block a series 1 or 2?
the have to match. and you should not change heads either stick with the same model.
heads are different slightly on the vp model but those heads won't fit a vn motor anyway different bolt hole sizes. check it out and post your results
