Punching out a catlytic converter doesn't gain you a huge amount (if it's working properly), and when (not if, but WHEN) you are caught by the EPA you will land anything up to a $10,000 fine.

It takes police, or the EPA, only a few seconds to check if it's in working order, using nothing more sophisticated than a high temperature thermometer.

Don't say it won't happen to you because I had a mate who WAS caught, ended up having to sell his car to pay the fine. It was either that, or spend some time in jail. The EPA tend to look fairly harshly upon illegal emissions from cars.

It's not worth it. If you're worried about it, get a hi-flow cat up ya.

apart from the fact you managed to dig a 4 year old thread for a pointless post, some vehicles pass emissions requirements without cat converters from factory, and therefore dont require them, much like my bmw, due to its age, didnt come with a cat stock, so doesnt need one.

if your car came with one, its gotta stay there and be in working condition.

Motorcycles come under a different class. Many new bikes now do have cats fitted. The new proposal is that by 2012 all motorcycles are to meet EuroIV standard, and by 2015 EuroV.
