I have seen a lot of ads on Ebay for people selling performance mods, saying extra 20 - 35hp with no soldering or wiring or doing anything......
well maybe something
The are selling plugs, that plug into the IAT sensor on the back of the V6 plenum, kinda like this <--sensor---{ } -- mod plug---{ }----wiring to ecu
it has a diode, which modifies the sensors reading telling the ECU that that Air temp is cold, allowing more fuel to be sent to the injectors. or something like that. well I'm thinking I could make one these......
but first I have a spare plenum here, I'm going to steal the sensor out of that, mount the sensor somewhere cool in the engine bay and connect that way, and just see what it does.
I know my car goes better when its cold outside so maybe they are onto something.
Feedback would be appreciated before I go ahead. cheers
would just waist fuel and run rich. it goes better at cold temperatures because higher volumes of cold air can be jammed into the plennum and cylinders than warm air, so for your plan to work youl would still need cold air coming into the engine. no power gains with this MOD.
on the other hand, if you did do it, u could experience power gains if you had a really good cold air intake, this way a lot more air will enter allowing the extra fuel injected by the new sensor position to mix and even out the mixture. but economy would suffer
Economy would go to shit, power may increase a little bit (35hp sounds a little far fetched to me), and you'll notice that you're killing a few parts of your exhaust a little quicker than normal (eg. catalytic converter).
All it will do is make it run rich. That's never a good thing. If you want more power, a good CAI with a hi-flow panel or pod filter will give you much better results (and will be better for your engine in the long run), and will do so without sending your fuel use through the roof.
