Okay - I finally re-fitted my handbrake (after about 6 months of driving handbrake-less, i got inspired to fit it after watching some 'motivational driving')
i figured while re-fitting it i might as well get new shoes for it (which i did), and a few new springs and things...
so the whole thing is back together now, and i guess you could say it works - but it doesn't work HOW i'd like it to. - in fact, it's kind of weird...
when the car is stationary, and you pull the handbrake, it works and feels nice and tight with only a few clicks to stop the car.
now... when you pull the handbrake with the car in motion, the lever is just very very loose... and barely slows the car down at all, when really, this should result in locked rears.....
my question is - have i stuffed something up in putting the puppy together? or is there more adjustment that needs to be done?
I tightened that top "separator" inside the drum so that the drum barely fit over it.....
did that for both sides then i tightened the cable...

can anyone think of WHY the handbrake would be loose when driving, and tight when stationary?
try tightening thel cable adjustment and you may find that your diff has exessive movement causing the loose while driving effect.....
to test this theory you would try using the handbrake whilst your car is facing up a hill rather than testing it stationary down the hillso your diff would in theory be as far forward as it could be causing the cable to slack off
if this is the problem you have some very bad rubbers up back that need attention
im not admiring your car im looking in disgust
but if this was the case... and my diff did have excessive movement, wouldn't the diff slide towards the rear of the car when pulling up the handbrake
therefore actually TIGHTENING the cable? - in which case it would make the handbrake even harder to pull up?
or would me pulling on the handbrake be bringing the diff forward?
I'll test out this hill theorem tonight, that's for the idea!
ye it is a strange problem im not sure why its working when your stopped and not whilst moving but definatley check the cable adjustment near the end of the gearbox first
