after seeing terri harrison drifting a 5litre v8 vn commodore and kicking ass, it got me thinkin its not only japanese cars that can drift well. so its got me thinkin maybe i should give it a go. i got a vn with a 5 speed,LSD and a v6 so maybe its possible. does anyone else go out on track days in there vn and throw it sideways?
i think you'll f*ck your lsd doing that. dont those types of cars have minispools for that?
1995 Manual HSV Clubsport
Wade Cam :: 9.2:1 CR :: Pacemaker headers :: Twin 2.5" Exhaust :: VT Brakes
1991 Supercharged VN Berlina
9 PSI SC14 Intercooled :: Genie headers :: Twin cats :: HM Twin 2.25 exhaust :: 3.45:1 LSD
Actually a lot of the D1 drift cars have a 2 way LSD. But then again those guys can afford to rebuild it after every comp so it's not too much of an issue.
What sort of work are you going to do to the engine to get it ready to drift? I can't see a VNV6 sitting there at 4500rpm for lap after lap of a drift track.
Gravity is proof that nature keeps getting us down.
If I were to use a VN for drifting I wouldn't use my street car.
So much stress goes on the drive chain it's not funny.
But for one lap, your car should be okay.
Yours Kindly,
Jim

what about robbie bolger with his 1000hp cappa ute that thing is awesome![]()
pitty he couldnt keep it on the road at summernatsdont know if it was him driving it then though
your car won't be happy about it![]()
although i'd be interested to see how she'd hold up!
on that note, here is a quick list of what you will be damaging! (don't let this deter you from the idea, just propably not the best thing to do in your daily!)
1) handbrake (stretching cables, and giving the insides of the shitty drum brake hell)
2) tyres
3) your LSD will be getting nice and warm and worn
4) bushes, particularly in the rear from the diff trying to be pushed out the side of the car..
5) tailshaft unis + centre bearing from locking the back wheels while moving
6) gearbox from sudden clutch drops
7) clutch from sudden clutch drops
8) engine from reving the tits off it constantly
9) power steering pump from being used under excessive pressure?
that's all i can think of for now....
that said, if you have no fear - and like breaking stuff, and have a decent handbrake the car should be reasonably capable of 'drifting' at the moment....
of course you'd want more power and a crazy suspension setup if you're going to get serious.
i drift my vk - it goes particulary hard
its hell fun and the v6 gives it a nice kick in the guts...
I have the v6 with a t5 and a mini spool diff.
I sit on the rev limiter in 3rd around most corners...

awesome drift in the vk!if anyone reads drift battle magazine they doin a r31 budget drift car and they all they did was weld the diff, lighten the car and to a bit of suspension work so thats what i was going to do. my vn is my daily driver so i was goin to try drifting after i get another car. the reason i thought a vn is because:
1)i own one
2)parts are cheaper than an import
3)its already pretty ballsy
The problem with the VN for drifting is that yeah, the engine is ballsy, but fairly low in the rev range (at least the torque is). So you might want to get in touch with greenfoam about some of the custom tuned chips that he produces. From what I've heard they make the V6 come alive.

me n my mates have always wanted to buy a $500 VL and take it to the track
cut the springs ;P split the exhust at the headers to a sidemount rice cannon :P, no cat converter :P i mean its only $500 :P, u can buy wrecks for cheaper than that... id never do that to my calais
one of my mates from work got lowered springs... he decided it wasnt low enough so he cut them... he decided it wasnt low enough so he removed the spring (was sitting on rubber stoppers), then he decided that wasnt low enough so he grinded the rubber stoppers down... lol hes a itiot... still funny
How far do you want to take it.. How much suspension work do you have already.
I'd be going nuts and eliminating body roll, a lot more work then just cutting the back springs anyway:P I guess I'd do it properly, springs, shocks, sway bars, braces, bushes and the likes.
I'd then invest in a very high quality button clutch, a minispool. Hydraulic handbrake, then I'd be trying to get a bit more poke out of the engine.
Things would break.. But what do you expect when thrashing a car like a madaxe takes off as a sport.
lol, the reason why do cut the springs and DONT do it properly :P and buy a cheapo car![]()
sounds good driftin commodores, thats a new art in its self that'll wake up the rice boyz a bit. Id doubt my vn ss would be any good lol![]()
Cheers.![]()

lol... drifting your road car is like putting a time bomb in your only life line...
its all good till it explodes...hence why u should buy a older, cheaper car that if u blow it up who cars u can buy another one for a fraction of the price and also there is 100x more parts for the at the wreckers... for when you blow it up... and i stress WHEN!!!! as road cars were never designed for this lol
lol good night
