Hey guys,
Going to put the v8 tank (80lt) into the v6 commodore as I need the extra fuel capacity...
Will the std v6 fuel pump/level sender fit fine??
Cheers
Arif

Let us know how it goes, it's a mod that I've been looking at for a while, only problem is that I can't find the 80ltr tank anywhere.

The fuel sender & pump fit fine, but the fuel gauge will be out. The height of the 80 ltr tank is heigher, you might need to bend the float wire to reach the bottom, otherwise you will show empty when there is still 15 litres in the tank.
simple solution. upgrade to a calais dashOriginally Posted by joebloggs

leave the v8 sender unit in the tank and see how it goes
are these '80lt' tanks pretty common or rare as hens teeth?

That'd be good. It means that you're never letting it get to the really 'dirty' fuel at the bottom of things. That of course assumes you look at the fuel gauge, and let's face it, they aren't really accurate.Originally Posted by joebloggs

I think they are terrible fuel gauges( i hate sayign anything bad about holdens). I see so many people smashing the S$#T out of there dash because the needle is playing up
The tank itself will bolt straight in, use the v8 sender and put the v6 pump onto the v8 sender. If the gauge does not read right you can get it re caliberated by and dash instrument place. Or as said before convert to a calais dash and set it to 80L, if you a have a calais just set the dash to 80L and jobs done!
I think the venting for the 80 litre tank is different too so to do it properly you need the right filler neck and associated hoses as in the pict below. The tank itself has one less small vent hose feeding the tank. The front of the tank itself also has a plastic protector that gives the front of the tank some protection from stones etc.The steel tank straps dont use any rubber under between them either and the tank too and they are u shaped and not flat like the smaller tank.If you use the sender from a large tank the gauge on the dash will read the same....the actual gauge is the same between v6s and v8s in the cluster as in the resistance readings from full to empty....just the arm on the float since the actual tank is deeper.
You can check it your self by putting the sender in and putting a ohm meter across the sender....283 ohms empty 97 half full and 40 ohms full.

The tank in the pic i believe is vr-vs, because the vn-vp 80L tanks still run the 2 small hoses as per v6 fuel tank. I didnt realise the fuel gauges were the same, but you learn something every day. I guess the swith on the calais is just so the trip meter can calucate distance to empty etc. and not actually for the fuel gauge itself.
Yep it is a vr/s one ..thats the one for my car.The pump setup for the different models is a bit puzzling. The vn/p 80 litre tank uses 2 fuel pumps...one high pressure and one low....the vr/s uses one high pressure and thats all.Any ideas why they did this?

One could only guess it was to save money on the assembly line! I cant think of any other reason because the vn-vp set up seams to work fine on the v8's.
Do all the V8's run an 80 liter tank? or was it an option
I am pretty sure that all v8s run the 80L tank.Originally Posted by greenfoam
yesum, the v8 80l fuel tank has 2 pumps one in the tank and an external one that runs lower psi its like primary and secondary. if any of you blokes figure out how to convert the 63l to the 80l v8 one give me a yell.
my mates old man is a truck tanker welder and made his drop tank its approx 130l or something rediculous like that. but he runs the standard pump into a smaller surge tank in the boot then runs an external holley fuel pump to the rail. im not sure what he did with the float...
I installed the 80 litre tank into my v6 that previously had a 63 litre one and it runs fine...using one fuel pump...in the factory book it only mentions one pump for a vr 80 litre job.

straight bolt in jobbie, but make sure you use the 80l straps, as the 63's won't fitOriginally Posted by Wonderboy
