I did one of those code fault finders and it showed up number 23 Mass Air Temp Sensor would anyone be able to give me a clue on what that is and where is it and how to fix it. I think this maybe the reason for the not starting when its hot.
You most likly have heard all of this before I tried to go back in the forum and find a simular problem but there are too many. I have a vn 1989 and have this problem it seems to happen when the car is hot I can drive it and then when I go to get back in it won't start (won't kick over) it happen once and this gentleman said pour cold water over the injectors which he did for about 3 minutes and it started I have taken it to a garage and they can't seem to find the problem. Also petrol comes out through the injectors not all of them just about 2 of them
When you say that petrol comes out of the injectors, I take it you mean that it's leaking over the manifold, and not going where it should? If that's the case I would suggest it's time for new o-rings and an ultrasonic clean of the injectors (maybe a replacement of the injectors depending on where the fuel is leaking).
As for the MATS it sits under the end of the driver's side fuel rail. The fuel pressure regulator sits almost directly above it, and the coolant temperature sensor sits below it. there are pictures in the Gregory's manual (pg 114) and here's what they say:
To remove and instal:
1) Disconnect the negative battery terminal
2) Disconnect the wirirng connector from the MAT sensor
3) Unscrew the MATS from the rear of the inlet manifold
Installation is a reversal of the removal procedure with attention to the following points:
1) Coat the threads of the MATS with Loctite 242 sealant prior to installation
2) Connect the negative battery terminal
3) Start the engine and increase the speed to 3000rpm for 10 seconds allowing the IACV to reset.
NOTE: If you don't disconnect the negative terminal of the battery, you don't have to rev shit out of your cold engine. So I'd just leave it all hooked up.
Instead of trying to pour water over the injectors, try pouring it all over the Crank Angle sensor (the biggest, and lowest pully on the front of the engine). That's normally what gets heat affected first.
Gravity is proof that nature keeps getting us down.
Buy new one and install
Real cars don't power the front wheels, they lift them
I have change the mat senor and it seems to have done the trick (fingers cross) thanks for you help Mouce
