The VR engine would ahve more power as it is a newer engine, did youknow that it had a new engine put in it?, coudl be a good thing for you as parts would be more readily avalible plus might have gotten a better bargin than you thought?
Thats all right, thats ok, I drive a commodore anyway!!!!

Mate the VP motor would be quicker than the VR.........

And VP/VR motor's are the exact same imo......

thought the vrs had those ecotech bastard engines? i heard they went a bit harder but whos to say unless you dyno both stock engines after 15 years of wear n tear.

there's stuff all difference man, i dont understand why your havin a cry.
(no offence, but its hardly the end of the world)
and just to clear everything up (and show how indifferent the two motors are)
    a vp has 127kw@4800rpm and 293Nm@3600rpm
    a vr has 130kw@4800rpm and 295Nm@3200rpm

umm, ok, still dont see why you're worried, unless you wanted all original, theyre pretty close engines, not enough difference to complain about. and both engines should weigh the same, if anything a kg or 2 different.

If you are referring to the weight of the motor, they are the same motor basically so should not be any different.
How exactly do you think you got ripped? Newer motor in older car, I'd be happy.

    chill man...damn.
my reading skills are just fine....how are yours?
THERE'S NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE ENGINES...INCLUDING THE WEIGHT.
the only reason a vr is ever so slightly heavier than a vp is from the differences in the body, not anything to do with the engine.
if anything, you probably got more than what you thought you were paying for with it being a newer engine.

just do it up if it goes hard then its gotta be good. im just curious why who ever origanally owned the car would swap the vp for a vr engine. doesn't make much sense?

The VN 88 to 90 was 127kw (according to holden)
The VN 91 to VR was 130Kw

holden are aways dodgey with there dynoes, thay always understate the kw on em. so add a few onto both, but then add 15 years of driving onto it, so realistically that statements pretty vague.

    Series I VN 88 - 91 125kw
    Series II VN 91 & VP 127kw
    VR 130kw
This is what I've been lead to believe by Holden.

The VR engine makes more power than then VP engine, it runs more compression and uses less fuel, be happy
