VQ exterior door trims chrome

Hey I have looked everywhere and thought aboyut a few different way of trying to fix my exterior door strips/protectors. Here is a pic so you know wat i mean http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...222_151811.jpg

I am wondering if anyone else has tried to fix these and have managed to replace them. On the doors the chrome part is part of the whole plastic trip but on the parts just above the gaurds they are seperate.
So far i have thought either grind of the chrome parts (which would be very difficult to do properly) and then get chrome strips that you can buy from super cheap, or i thought maybe painting them with chrome paint but i dono how good or more likely bad that is gona look.

Any idea or solutions that anyone has found

nah that chrome paint stuff is crap looks horrible
