wen was it last serviced and how k's has it done, maybe time for a new one or have it re built, sounds like the auto clutch is going, but then may only need a good oil change

hasnt been serviced the gearbox oil is still good as its always over filled because the gasket has a small leak but its been like this for around 4 years never had a problem the clock is reading around 180,000 i changed the cluster it would have around 320,000

To reduce the slippage by adjusting the kickdown cable but it would be a quick fix. Get the gearbox checked by a specialist

Ive got the same problem..... when warming up... the trans takes its time and slips while changing gears... and 1st over-revs...but when its warm.... runs ok 8/10 times i was quoted $120[Adelaide] for a trans overhaul... which included bands adjustment.... goes in next week for it.....

yeah i say u should have it serviced, they will tell u if anything is gone in it, ur bands could be loose and slipping, also just cause ur always topping oil doesnt mean ur filter isnt full of gunk, so id say spend the money and get it serviced, as for 120$ for band adjustmant and all that is good, i was priced 150 for a service and 350 for bands being done as they must take the tranny out

My trans went really bad about 4 months after i got my vn

Got it fixed at a trans place but they said the best they could do was a bandaid job and it would need to be replaced sooner then later.:b:

Then one day i am in this 70 zone with someone tailgating me untill we finally get upto a round-about. After the round about there are two lanes but turns into one after about 40m and its 80k zone.
So we look at each other and both floor it. He takes off but i cant get out of first. I try manual shift but nothing then i realise the trans is dead

Drove down the 80 zone in first at about 20k and all the way home (took about 20min)

Anyway got trans replaced now goes better than ever, just which i got a manual conversion done
