    Default Cheap Mods

    Hey all

i would like your opinoin on my first mod to my car i'm not sure if i should put a stereo in or mags so. If stereo whats the best brand to put in "alpine" "sony" or "pioneer" i'm not sure. see my brother has a Song Explode and it seems to be pretty good. And has anyone seen the "spokey" looking mags on commodores. I think they suit them so well. if anyone has them would they be able to send some pics and there name and where you got them from plz.

    thanks

lol chip your computer, get cold air induction, with a k & n filter. all relatively cheap. make sure your throttle body is 100% open, which is a sticky at the top of the vn forum. And i've got 18 inch monara hsv wheels, they look pretty hot, and you can find em cheap 2.

sony explode audio gear is quite possibly the worst mainstream brand you can buy...so dont be tempted, even if it is cheap.
as for your first mod, id just get the car runnin sweet first...check out the suspension bushes..brake pads and rotors...all the usual major service stuff, like plugs and leads (which usually get forgotten about in the normal oil change) battery and alternator check...trans service...and so on and so forth.
there's not much point in doin up a car if it runs like a piece of crap...
(im not saying yours does at all)
but alot of people seem to forget all the important things and just spend money on cosmetic mods, etc.
for instance (yeah im on a rant) last night at work a guy pulled up in a pretty nice looking vs with a vy clubby kit on it and sure it looked good but when he went to leave, it wouldnt start...he sat on the forecourt for about half an hour trying to crank it over....money spent on all the wrong things.

    Hey SircruisealotVS

The car it self has been well looked after the only problem is that dick heads have hit the car with trollys and ****ed off and left dints and the back bottom bit under the tail light damaged. but i found a new on and put it on just needs to be sprayed. but other wise the interior is clean and tidy. just looks a little bit shabby because of that bit.

I'll second Sircruisealot here, there's nothing worse than a car that looks faster than it is. That's what rice is all about.

Even if you leave the engine stock, and work the suspension (nolathane bushes, strut tower bar, gas shocks/struts and good springs. You'll find that you can out manouver (and because it's a VN out run too ) all the cars that have massive rims and bodykits on them.

I'd rather have a car that looks stock that is reliable and drives on rails than a trick looking car that handles like a wet sponge if it chooses to run.

    Hey all

Sony Explode is pretty good compared to the phillips head unit i heard it sounded like shit splatting out of someone arse. but i guess it depends on wat speakers you have not which head unit. And how much would it cost me to get a CAI for my car? and where would i get one?

    Thanks

get the VS supercharged cold air intake from holden. should cost 60-70 if you want to cut the air box yourself. for the airbox piece it will cost another 20-30.

i also agree about the xplods. i just have 4 inch xplod in the front of my car, but i can never have them up loud cause they distort.

i'd go mags before stereo, at least 17" mags these days.

then i'd put cai (ss inductions ) and a k&n panel filter.

then i'd either put in the stereo or an exhaust.

my recomendation is alpine with stereos gear.
cat? isnt that an animal? no i dont want one in my exhaust system thankyou very much...

pioneer or fusion, thats the mix i have, also a big hint try and stick with 1 brand, u dont want like alpine head, sony subs, kenwood speackers etc etc, same brands run better with each other

JVC head unit with fusion amps/subs and speakers. That's a nice combination to have.

alpine head unit, alpine 6x9's and 6.5" in rear shelf and some alpine 4" in front doors, thats what i got so far, need an amp though, but alpine does me good, as for cheap mods, is there such a thing, depends what price range you want, but yeah i would get it running good first, then i would go extractors and exhaust, but as for audio gear, everyone will have there own opinion, well thats my view, good luck with the mods
    cheers, nick

why on earth would you pay for a ss inductions kit when a s/c CAI does exactly the same thing at a fraction of the price.

@potshots: Yeah, cheap mods do exist, for example getting your throttle body to open to 100%. Nothing better. Especially if it's only opening to about 85% before you do it. That costs nothing other than about 5 minutes.

Let's face it, most mods can be done fairly cheaply, if you do the work yourself.

i have a set of philips 6 inch splits in the back of my commodore. they are really good believe it or not. there are two philips. shit and good. they are 10 times better than the pioneer splits i use to have hooked up in the front. they are rubbish.
in my pulsar i have a pioneer head unit, kenwood 6 x 9's kenwood 4 inches in the front, and two boston 10 inch subs powered by an orion comp amp, the other speakers are powered by a kicker and rockwood amps. it pumps. great combo if you ask me. i bought the car like it and wouldn't have done everything that has been done if i did it. cost too much money if ya ask me. but it does sound great though...

That is absolute rubbish. Each brand have specific items that they specialise in. To claim the same brands work better together is obsurd.

I have Infinity, Alpine and Kicker and my system is rockin. Infinity make brilliant speakers but when it comes to their amps theyre a joke. Kicker make insane amps but i would never buy a set of components or 6 inch speakers from them.

I have an Alpine amp and headunit and if i were to ever do a "one brand" system I would do Alpine, but as I said before I am not an advocate of this.

To achieve the best results you need to buy what each company specialises in.
