check the condition of your rubber seals around the tail light's, the comon place for a leak is there
cheers

Ive got water leaking underneeth my custom install in my boot, i gotta take the whole lot out and clean her out.
prick of a job
Check the condition of the foam seals around the tail light assemblies (holden used shit foam, solution: use a bead of silicone sealant when putting them back in)
Check for any rust spots where the boot rubber sits (water can get trapped under the boot rubber and rust through, solution: cut the rust out and patch it up, then lots of silicone)
Rear window rubber seal can perish (solution: get a tube of silicone sealant cut the smallest hole you can in the nozzle, and run a bead of silicone around UNDER the rubber on the glass, then under the rubber onto the body work.
Spoiler mounting holes, if you have a spoiler the bolts holding it on can let water through (solution: take the spoiler off, and run a ring of silicone around each hole before bolting it back down).
Fuel filler hole, the rubber seal around the hinge can leak, (solution: more silicone, just make sure that you don't put too much in otherwise you can't open you fuel flap)
Boot garnish holes (same as for the spoiler)
Boot lock hole, yep it leaks on some of them (solution: more silicone around the inside of the boot lid where the lock comes through)
Stupid little plastic clip panels at the base of the D-pillar, from the rear doors, go to the dodgy triangular windows, then on the rear corner of those there are little plastic covers (not the silver window highlights, but colour matched plastic covers), these can let water in (solution: using a flat blade screwdriver, with a lot of electrical tape wrapped around it, GENTLY pry them out, clean away all the old adhesive (that nasty black stuff), jam as much silicone under there as you can, and put them back on).
Those dodgy triangular windows. Yes they leak, water flows over the top of them and as it flows down loops back under and drips straight into the boot. Holden used the same foam seals on them as the tail lights. So they have the same problem. PM me if you want instructions on how to get them out. It's a real head**** of a job, and you will end up breaking something if you don't do it just right (trust me).
These are most of the leaks I found in mine, and how I fixed them, so far it's all good, with the exception of the triangular windows, I've only done one side so far. Everything else is water tight.
Good luck.

if you can - have a friend, or yourself in the boot with a torch and have someone with a hose on the outside.. stay in there until you see where the leak is from
Most likely from windscreen rust or boot seal rust... have a REALLY close look. To fix - do it properly.. don't use silicone as this attacts water and will only create more rust in the end (also paint reacts to it so getting it every where only makes it harder for the person who fixes it).
As mentioned above - check all other seals too![]()
hey all
It's still raining here and the somorning i opened the boot and it's leakin out off the bottom stop lamp ( where u screw the bulb in) so what would i do just take the light cluster out and jusst check the rubber seals and then just silicone them up to stop it or get a whole new cluster?
Thanks for all your help.

Pull the light assembly out. And actually pull the lens off it. Put a thin bead of silicone around it, then put it back on so that it makes a water tight seal. Then on the back of the light assembly, where the busted arse foam seal is, another big bead of silicone all the way around, then bolt it all back on. Should stop leaking.

Mate, if you need ANY help on waterproofing the boot on a VN, PM me, I've spent that last 12 months working my way over, under, around and through my boot, from bumper to rear doors plugging leaks. I can tell you how and why things leak and how to fix them.
Buying new lights will only really be a band-aid solution, because the foam seals will do the same thing over again. Silicone sealant is your friend! There's six tubes in the back of my car already, and I still have a leak that I'm yet to wipe out.
I'm thinking of not doing a boot install and putting in a little fountain or something, I figure I've already got a pond in there, might as well make it look nice.

Hey Mouce
PM sent thanks again.

I used silicone on and around the tail lights and the boot lock,If you look at your tail lights where the red/orange/white meet it leaks there.
TO fix that i had to get silicone on my finger and work it all around each groove in between on the tail lights to stop the leak...
Also other places it leaks is rear side windows and also near the rear windows at bottom next to window is a plastic type insert thats if you look in your boot with torch up in the side where rear window is you can see 2 white prong things that hold that plastic insert in place well it leaks from there as well, just get big blob of silicone and cover those white plastic prongs on both sides or if you want to risk it try take them out and silicone up and replace.
If you have trouble let me know... will take photos for you...

The hardest thing is getting rear side windows done yourself... My only boot leak now is that
so pay someone .. average price is $60 a window... to get resealed.
TO stop water from causing rust damge or the car to smell get 2 old towels and stick at sides of boot under carpet and then put plastic bags on top of that then put carpet back in place and on other side just stick a towel under the spare wheel.
this is what i have to do until i get side windows resealed![]()

Yep found the little hole in the tail light today, I'd resealed it twice before.
Took the tail light out and fill the bloody thing full of water.
Found the hole.
More sealer and put it back in... Hope its fixed now.
All good... except use selastic (auto silicone), doesn't react as much with paint, isn't acidic so it won't rust.
