Boss's VN won't work without some code, something to do with disconnecting the battery.
I didn't know VN's had this theft deterrent/radio feature.
So where would one find the code? in owners manual? or do you have to get it from a holden dealer? Or is there a way around it all together?
OR! maybe the boss is delusional and something else is wrong with the car?
Any help here would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers, Chris
ive taken the battery out of my vn heaps of times cause i keep running it flat (damn subs) and i havent had any problems
wat do u mean radio feature?Originally Posted by dingaling
Well there you go! thats what i though! but the boss reckoned it needed a code to start the car or some shit, he was asking if i knew how to fix it.
Radio feature, more an anoyance, just an anti theft device in some newer cars where you have to put in a code with the radio buttons. I didn't think the VN would have it.
Thanx for clearing that up for me adam.
Cheers
not too sure on whether the vn had a security coded radio (ive never owned one with a stock tape deck....or whatever they came with)
but that shouldnt stop the car from being started...its only for the radio itself.
it may have had a factory alarm which is causing issues..what kind of vn is it?
interesting, i will have a look at the car tommorow, hmm i think the year is 1990 but i can't be totally sure, its a wagan with vacationer or something simular written on the side, boss has 2 of them, the other one got a hole in the welsh plug and it got severly overheated. bad luck i guess
I don't know about VN but my VS has a code which I have to key into the radio to get the radio going - has no effect on car starting. Had to get radio code of the Holden Dealer the first time and I wrote it encrypted into the owners book. My Vectra comes with a card with the number so possibly this happens with the Commodore as well but it was lost seeing VS was bought secondhand.
well that is strange, the boss swears it needs a code. amd i said well according to the fella's on this commodore forum that it doesn't need one, and if it did it's only for the radio, it shouldn't prevent the car from starting.
And then he whent on about how it did, and that the other VN he has the code for. very strange!!!
He's kind of old he must have it mixed up with another car and the car is just having another problem all together maybe he put the battery on the wrong way.
Thanx for the reply all.
cheers.
Tell youre boss that when you call the NRMA to get the car going with a flat battery or they put a new one in (a common enough problem) they dont enter any code to start the car. They just simply start the car. The radio doesn't work (assuming still has factory radio) but does as soon as you enter the code. If the vehicle does not start then there is another problem unrelated to the flat battery. Print this out and show him.
My VN berlina's headunit had a security code for it, but i never had to enter it. i ripped it out of the car 1 day after i got it.
You will need to call holden and give them all the details of the car. hopefully they will have the pin on record
also, check the cars log book ETC. there should be a sticker attached to it with the details

did he even try and start it, probably thought the think would explode without entering the code.
no the VN does not need a code to start the car in stock condition. and I have never seen an immobilsor run of the radio although this is an awesome security idea. Who would think the radio is in control.
your boss(print that and show him)
