    Default calling any resprayers!!!

    hey
i recently sprayed a bumper with the correct colour match paint...

the bumper came up beatifully, except one problem, being my vn is nearly 17 years old, the white paint has indeed faded and is 1 shade diffrent than the paint i have put onto my bumper its not terribly bad but its still annoying,

is there anyway to ajust the bumper colour (like sand the clear coat off it and spray it with a diffrent shade??)

or can i get the paint cut and polished to bring it back to life???
    cheers

ps. how much does a cut and polish cost?????

also ignore the grease on the paint lol, i had to take the wheel off to drill new holes for the mount...

also is there anyone out there who might wanna respray my doors / side panels for a price that wont cost more than the cars worth? :P

it'll just cut into the clear, theres heaps left you can only do it so many times. and yeh sure you got the colour off the plackard right, that'll be the original colour, not the ciscoloured white it is now, if you get it colour matched, you paint will match the weathered old off white, not the original colour, therefore maintaining consistency through your paint, so there haha :P

Next time take your code and then take your fuel cap off and along with that go to a crash supply shop and get paint made up to suit, then you wont have that problem - you'll probably also find that it won't cost much more and if you ask them they can even put it into an aerosol can - but keep in mind than a standard size aerosol can only contains about 150grams of paint! I worked as a crash repairer for 7 years and the amount of cars i did fixing up peoples dodgey colour coding never ceased to amaze me!!!

i put a body kit on my old blue VN. i went and got some paint and teh fella mixed it while i was tehre
i was about to pay for it and the boss came out and said, is that the car out the front. which i told him it was.. so he grabbed the tin and put a heap of silver in it. i nearly shit myself. i asked what he was doing and he said he was fading the paint for me.. when i sprayed it, it was not far off. could have had more silver in it and it wouldn't have mattered. if he didn't do that the car would have looked stupid.
after the hole car had a cut and polish it looke pretty good i reckon..

The paint code is only a guide as to the color of the car. I have seen a few different ways to tint a certain color that comes out completely different. When one of my old customers used to come in & match paint for a repair he always brought a peice of the car to adjust the mix accordingly.

Yeah the guys that work at those places are pretty good at matching paints - I mean this is what they do for like 8 hours a day, day after day, so you'd kinda assume they get real good at it...!

As stated before. Go to a crash shop & have them mix the paint for you. An over the counter mix can vary from the factory. The spraypainters eye for color will be a lot better than yours & will get it very close to the mark.

I havn't come across many panel shops that will mix up color for me as they all want to do the job, however most car paint supply shops will colormatch for a fee. I suggest you be polite and not piss them off and they will do a better job for you.

Where I work I used to supply paint for various fleet owners. I found that it didnt matter how accurate you were with the mixing process, you could not get a perfect match with the mix from the computer. When I did my own car I had the mix done for me elsewhere as the white that Spies Hecker use is apparently too dirty for Herron white. Where it was done had all the computerized scales etc. When I recieved that paint it may as well have been blue it was that far off.
My point is no matter where you go off the shelf you will have to get someone to color match it.

what you should of done was matched the paint work of of your body for the bumper, instead of buying the correct color code paint....as you know paint does fade...when matching paint always take it from body of car, take the fuel flap off is the best way, leave it with the paint matchers for a day, they will match it exactly the same, the choice is yours if you want to cut and polish before you take fuel flap in for a 100% match
you still have to give them the paint code though...they need it

i have found the GMC belt driven 3HP 50 Litre to be quite good,i do a lot of spraying and couldn't be any happier with it.
bunnings stock them $499.00 (on special $449.00)
auto barn have finishing guns for $50.00,i was impressed with this one also for the price.
