Default My horn wont work its all back to front!!

Okay here is one for you brainy vn people!!
Changed my steering wheel, got a new boss kit.
Hooked up the horn and for some reason when the key is off or out the horn worked, but when the key was switched on the horn would not work!! the steering column and the metal shell of the boss kit seemed to unearth when the key is on...... SO... I tried to wire the earth wire to under the ignition barrel metal thingee it worked, but the wires turned around when I turned my steering wheel and got all wrapped up!!! I have checked all fuses, even asked some mechanics about it and every one is dumb struck!!

    HELP!!:b: :b:

all i know is the horn button earths the horn so it works. so untill you hit the horn the circuit is uncomplete. i don't know how you have it hooked up but try swapping the wires around..

I had the same problem and consequently got defected by a pig bout a week after installing my steering wheel. The problem may be that the head unit is not touching the actual boss.

If you look on the backside of your boss there is a flat round piece of copper. This connects (or is meant to) to a circular outcrop of steel on your steering wheel.

This is where it gets stupid. The little dodgy piece of outcrop is usually very worn in a 17 yr old car so you may need to replace the whole thing. The head unit sits behind the steering wheel so you will have to take it off if this is the problem. The head unit slides straight off the spline (clips hold it on).
Sprint Auto sell em for $150-160 not cheap for a piece of plastic attached to metal but very much needed if yours don't connect properly.

    Hope this helps

i had a aircraft tech look over the whole thing and he was so confused. He said there is no reason the horn should only work when the key is out!!! then he hooked power to the copper knob at the back now the bloody interior light will not go off!! oh my!! how many friggin little computers are there in VN's!!! the horn does work! but only when the car is off!! tried switchin the leads over and the same thing happened!!! when my alarm and stuff was stuffing up, the alarm and horn would constantly go off with or without the key. i solved it by disconnecting the horn and re-soldering the alarm wires back up, havent had the problem again. now hopefully i wont get pulled over by the cops, otherwise ill get defected or get a fine. maybe i should hook the horn back up....
