what do you mean the manual one can't lock in?

when not engaged the starter motor should just sit there with the gear retracted from the flywheel...

when engaged, the gear pops out and engages into the flywheel?

I'd say go with the manual one as it's made for the manual flywheel?

is the inspection plate on? does it space it out a little?

did you put the spacer back when you bolted the starter....it has a spacer that is held in place with the starter bolts....it is the width of the starter, has a slot cut out one end...i'd say thats your problem...

i had to put a spacer in with mine.. wouldn't work without making a horrible sound. it took me about an hour putting washers in and taking them out. i think i put 2 washers one side and nothing the other in the end.. I think??? now 2 years later it hasn't missed a beat..
i don't know why it happens. it just seems to happen
someone put a thread up about it happening to them the other week..
