hey could anybody put in detail how to install speakers into a vn commodore that dosent have rear speakers. i'm wanting to install speakers in my vn but not sure bout the wiring because there were no speakers before????
have fun buddy, you have to cut holes in your parcel shelf. Not a fun/easy job to do.
i bought parcell shelf boxes and put 6x9s in, shit if u want bass, but i hav a sub and running them full trebs so it sounds awsome, i cant see out the bak window at times! a good alternative to cutting holes
Don't blame me, It's that damn percadan..
If you ask me, that stuff rots your brain...
And now a word from our new sponsor.. Percadan? oh crap!
How about a novel idea about taking it to a stereo place that does installations and get them to do it ?
Are they fixed to the parcel shelf?Originally Posted by Keesh

oh to fit an amp?
is not that hard at all do it yourself! i posted a good tutorial on it under the VN-VP thread 'amp i a vq?' but i guess you would hav to get the holes done properly, theres alot of stuff about the hole spacing from the child restraint anchor point or sumthing..

Yeah just watch out for them hey, my mate pranged into a stobey pole at 60 clicks, the speakers flew off the back shelf and cracked the windscreen! Lucky didn't hit anyone.Originally Posted by Keesh

Mate & I made our own shelf for the VN.
20mm MBF. Used the old shelf as a template. Had the back window edge bevelled off.
There is enough room on the actual parcel shelf for the magnets to fit in. The 20mm gave it enough clearance so it wouldn't touch. Re-carpeted it, and it looks pretty neat.
Avoid cutting the shelf is what has been recommended on here. You shouldn't have to anyways.
Does ne one have a clue this guy is obviously wanting to do it on the cheap and get experience doing it just help.
First step if you just want sound in the rear buy a set 6" round speakers Splits are even better
remove your rear seat (bottom and Back) Sit in the foot well and push back and up at the base, the seat has a tricky locking device which up will need to observe when re fitting
Undo screws and lift up backrest
remove screw plugs remove parcel shelf on the edges of the shelf there are speaker wells if no holes cut this is where they need to be. Either mark them out on top or from under (in the boot ) Boot will be easier to cut out from
proceed to cut them out use a jigsaw and tinsnips most people have these around the home use eye protection or foull face protection metal dust is not nice in the eyes or mouth
screw in speakers and refit as for the wireing I'm not to sure but it will be there have a look at a mates car for the color coding of the wires
That should be of some help
As for shelf boxes steer clear not only do they look like sh1t and they are a killer in an accident regardless of how there screwed down
i have 6x9s in boxes n i ran the wire thru the baby seat bolt thingy u have to remove the plastic screws first if thts how u wanna go other wise i kno in the vp there r metal circles welded on the will take a few hits wit a screw drivere n will be off...ill explain more if need be oh yer onli 6inches will fit

I know that was the case with my friends VP executive.

vinny welsh it does have the precut holes in the parcel shelf and i have already fitted the speakers to the parcel shelf i just need to find the wiring
the wiring is on the right side of the vehicle, there should be two plugs, directly to the right of were the boot hinge is, its like behind the right wall of the boot, brown and yellow wires, im not sure if they ARE there on ur car, they mightnt b fitted, i found it better to run wires from the HU because i was getting static off the HU power wires, as long as you always run power up one side and speakers/RCA on the otherside of the car when wiriring to the boot.

dude this isnt difficult once u know what to do , i was like **** how the **** is this possible but it is rather easy once u do it once. i highly suggest putting pods on the pacel shelf tho but if u want to go in no one can stop u . all u got to do is take the rear seats out and then ur brake light in window then take off the pacell shelf and cut ur holes most ppl would dissagree with this but it makes life easy undo ur centre consoll so u can run the speaker wire under there and into the back of ur deck it saves so much time and is so easy to do once u know what ur doing need more details contact me good luck (seriously stick with pods tho its a lil easier and sounds better
With Great Horsepower Comes Great Irresponsibility
^ how is it easyer to remove the centre console? its always better to have them running down the side, under the backseat and into the boot. that way if something goes wrong the wires are easy to access, and you can be safe from interferance if you were to run powere for an amp.. id rather push wires under an bit ov plastic than remove the whole console again, i think all you need is a 2cm spacer to fit 6x9's into the original holes anyway. b careful about cutting ur own holes because theres supposed to b a minnimum clearance to the child restraint anchor points or sumthing

Hey, if you still running the factory head unit then it will only be 2 channels and if you hook rear speakers to the factory head unit then just cut the cables and solder all wires for the rear speakers to the front or run them in parallel, i dont reccomend doing it, but if you rear speakers to run of 2 channels then that might be the best way to do it
