Default my socket-ed memcal - something wrong?

    Hey guys..

Just finished soledring a socket onto my memcal, but it seems to sit up very high. It probably sits about half way up the leg of the knock sensor... when i plug my standard eprom into it, the bottom of the eprom is level with the top of the knock sensor, and there is no way the blue cover will go back on. Also, the part I bought seems too wide to fit the cover back on - i dont know if your meant to be able to? I've got pics if you need them...

I hope my soldering job works, I learned how to about 8 years ago, and haven't done it since - now I see why!

This is the socket i used, part number PI-6466

    Thanks...

do you have a multimeter? just check to see if the pins from a plugegd in chip connect to the pins at the base of the memcal....

if the blue thing doesn't go on, do you really care?... it's just there to look pretty

All sockets should be low enough to fit under the cover with an eprom plugged in but it depends how far you pushed the socket in before you soldered it I guess no big deal so long as all the joins are good

thats strange.. the jaycar socket is too wide to fit between the little ribs inside the blue cover, and i think it would be too tall. Would there be any problem running it "coverless"?
