OMG its happeneing!
Ok, just got off the phone with a Holden part supplier in sydney. Now before you go oh crap its in sydney..they ship all parts to all parts..lol...of Australia.
I have ordered a VP SII Auto to Manual Conversion Kit. This kit comes with everything you need to convert the transmissions including Ecu with manual memcal (not ness' i know) box, pedals, tail shaft....blah blah blah.
This kit has cost me:
$1600 for complete kit
$100-150 for shipping to Mornington Peninsula from Sydney (like 500kms?)
and im thinking $400-500 install.
=============
$2250 (will cost more ie. New Dinner Plate Tacho)
I havn't got it yet but when i do there will be a COMPLETE registrar of parts, pictures and further price updates.
Im not going to mention the store yet as i dont want some ass to come and buy it from under me with a bigger cash payout! not happenening. As soon as i have it ill give ph#, address', little suzies x-mas list and everything.
Also i will list the mechaninc who is dooing it and hopefully i'll be there to take lotsa photos.
Its finally happening for me!!! you dont relise how many phone calls and hours spent on stupid posts trying to find how to do this.
VP(and VN) Owners...stay tuned.
P.S. This place stocks other models so you guys/girls can also come back.
EXCITED!!!

For reference, parts i needed to completely convert my vp s2 v6 to manual were:
flywheel
clutch plate
pressure plate
associated bolts
clutch cable
pedal box
metal round thing that mounts on clutch cable
bellhousing
gearbox
shifter
rubber boots between shifter and cabin
interior trim for center console
new gearbox crossmember
manual loom extension
bought a kit for 700 bux, 2nd hand gearox
gearbox was shat, so bought reco box for 1000
350 cash back on the crapped out box from the wreckers
+ new clutch
= approx $1500-1600 total.

so is that including a gearbox??
mine came stadard auto but i do need to rebuild it its very noisy and thrust barring is rooted gears crunch lol its had a hard life
im going to do a manual conversion very very soon... Just looking for the best road to go down. So far im thinking Wrecked vn to vr would be the best solution
im in that same boat commy92, gunna find a wrecked VN, and rebuild the whole engine and pack it fullo go fast bits at the same time, maybe some forced induction to go along with it. Just wish i could walk into somewhere and go, this is what i want, here is the money, ill be back when its ready
i converted my vn calais, i got most of the parts for $850 but i rebuilt the box myself 4+5 synchro's were shagged and 5th gear dog teeth were almost gone, i got the parts for free from tradeschool.
but i didnt use this 'extended manual loom', someone please explain? mine plugged straight up. i was using the auto computer for a while until i found a manual memcal and it idles better and goes a touch better. something to do with spark advance curve or something like that.
the only dramas i had was finding a flywheel, i have a 6-bolt s1 one sitting here if anyone is interested. i used the ring gear off it though. i had to buy a flywheel from castlemaine rodshop for $275 its the 8-bolt one for vns2-vr.
the pedal box was also a pain in the ass i had to take off the brake booster and drop the steering collumn and f@#k around for a bit to get it in.
the only thing i havent gotten around to doing yet is the clutch cancel switch for the cruise control. im going to buy a switch from dick smiths and fiddle around.
mine turned out pretty good, im in love with first gear.![]()
if anyone needs any help when they do theirs i can tell you what i did with mine to help you out if you do it yourself.
cheers.
do you work for the wreckers I bought this gear off? lolwhy new gearbox crossmember autos are the same
they said "the crossmember is the same, blah blah" -so didn't supply the crossmember
manual box went in...
crossmember completely different
went back to the wreckers, they supplied me with differnt crossmember, fit perfect.
Apparently it had something to do with mine being a late model vp?
who knows - but in MY '93 VP series 2, the auto and manual crossmembers were different.
as for the extended manual loom thingie, it's just like a little footlong loom piece with a plug and some connectors for the gearbox (speedo sensor, reverse lights, etc) - it does away with the auto's inhibitor switch etc....
You could easily make your own one of these though.
it shouldn't of been different....especially if it was an MD8 auto that you took out...Originally Posted by VP_Luke
yes it is expensivebut you really dont understand how hard it is to get the parts(for me anyway)...every where i call, go into or talk to doesn't do it or have no parts to do it...this is my way out and i was prepared to pay this much for it. To rebuild my T700 it was gonna cost 1600 but thta was with strengthening and a stageII. Anyway once i get a list of all the parts and pics then it may make all others with a VP a little easier. By the way, is a VPSII and SI the same in terms of flywheels and other transmission complicated parts??
Cheers,

yeah there is 2 diffrent cross members that the vps used. Dont no why but yeah. I was going to do basically the same this sir sv3800...lol building up the other engine a bit and maybe a twin blower set up. I also gotta come up with a couple of grand first. Stupid rego and insurnace and things wrong with my car. GRrrrr
Thats awesome.
Its a lot cheaper than the $3890 (+ freight + fitting) quote that I got from Mal Wood Automotive. That was for a 5L VP though. I don't know if it is much different for the V6.
Does it come with the centre console bits? Also, is the box used or reco'd? With the Mal Wood kit, everything was new or reco'd.
I'll be doing this conversion at the end of the year on my VP, so I'll be very intested to see how you go.
More like 1,000km...Originally Posted by azkwazere
Did you try CRS? They have conversion kits for everything. And they're in Vic.
I have a worked VN manual with extractors and stage 3 crow cam, twin cat exhaust, etc for sale in a week or two PM me for details. looking for 4500ono
engine built 2 years ago, very little use since then.
which twin cat system did you use dodgy? did you go with the crow pipes one? i have 2 into 1 pacemakers but am getting the stage3 cam+chip+valve spring package and they reccomend the crow pipes setup. could i take out the y-piece and get a twin cat setup?
custom from extractors, no Y-pipe, 2 1/4 into 2 cat's, then a collector near the diff into 2 1/2 over the diff.
stage3 cam+chip+valve spring package is a good package, send your heads off and get them ported and polished at the same time.
Here is a few pics, before the manual conversion

***UPDATE***
Got off the phone today and its box'd and ready to go. Will be here by wednesday (friday today). They said that the clutch is good but i will have to replace the throw-out-bearing?? I donno.
The mechanic who is dooing the conversion, Allen From FAST FIT somerville, is meeting with me when i get all the parts and we are gonna asses the cost. He said its gonna take about a day and $400-$450.
More details when they come. Oh and i ordered a set of VR doors pods. They cost me $110. <-- Good price considering the amout of hours ive spent at wreckers searching for these puppies!

You paid $2250, I got my factory VN 5sp for $2,800 in Cape Shank(can't spell it but up your way). It had 276,000 on the clock. How many k;s has your car done?
I spose you've already spent a lot on your car and would rather mod it then part with it.
i just re-read your post, didn't take much notice of the series 2 partOriginally Posted by azkwazere
what conversion kit are you talking about?...don't need one for a series 2..all you need is just a flywheel, clutch kit and cable, pedal box,and console insert for the manual lever, tail shaft should be OK from memory ....it's only when you have a wagon as a donor car that you need to shorten the tailshaft, and as you have mentioned,VP's gearbox (auto) cross member is different.
ohh and of course the 5 speed box![]()
you do need to change the at least the tailshaft. it's different.

there's also a crazy round black thing on the front of the tailshaft in the manual.. maybe some kind of balancer thing maybe? or something to absorb vibrations?
either way it makes the tailshaft poo to get out without loosening the handbrake lots.
not all 5 speeds came out with that set up...definately not on mineOriginally Posted by VP_Luke
...i have seen them, but like i said not on all manuals.
