I loved manual shifting in the VN - shift kits are great I still do it a bit in the VK, but not as much as in the VN, love that kick & 2nd gear chirp *sigh* I miss it so....

Its a lil different in the some VR/VS to the VN/VP/some VR's in that trans will lock first in VN/VP but not in VS... this is a good thing IMO lol but I guess if ya not careful you can do some serious damage

I say yeah have fun with manual shifting, just watch what you do, & dont treat it too rough & enjoy! hopefully you wont break anything

I reckon if it's speeds of around 60kp/h go back to 3rd, But other then that i won't drop it back and my car or maybe it's all these cars seem to pick up speed fast when going down hills, And you brake away but you still seem to get so close to the car infront who isn't braking, So that little drop to 3rd isn't to bad.
But i have never tried to shift back to 2nd before when going above 60 so i really don't know, But it will drop to 3rd on the freeway and even 2nd not sure about 1st but?.
When we had the old VB i was man shifting all the time in that car it was fun, But i dont do it in the VP.

I use it to slow down or rather not to gain more speed on hills, I loved 1st gear take offs... I can be a bit of a red light warrior lol & then the 2nd gear chirp

i take it u r talking about manual shifting by not going into 2nd. Do you drop it back by putting ur foot down(drop into 2nd).I get to about 110kph in 2nd gear when overtaking on the highway.

Yeah i won't man shift back to 2nd in this tranny, The old i did once going on the freeway, It wouldn't drop so i did it myself.
I can sit @ 100 and it will drop back to 2nd for a bit thats in D. I have always felt that in Auto it drops gears better then i could do myself. The only time i consider going manual shifting is when at a stand still.
I'll have to see how far i get in 2nd on the freeway.
This new tranny i have will not man shift gears under 5000rpm, I tried it the other day off the lights changed it to 2nd @ 4800rpm, Nothing changed @ 5100rpm like it does in D.
My old Tranny shifted in Drive into 2nd about 4000rpm, So manual shifting in that was more to get better speed into higher gears, But my new one i can't be bothered really it does a good job itself.

    Cool Gearing Down

I drive my VN Berlina around town and up and down a lot of hills. I always drive around in fourth gear. Going down a slight hill i will drop to third. Going down a steepish hill i will drop back to second. I always drop back to second when i am doing about 80Kmh with no problems. The revs come up, but its nowhere near the revs you get when you keep it in second to overtake a wanker. I once accidentally dropped back to first at about 60Kmh and nothing happened until the car slowed to about 40Kmh, them it dropped itself into first and chirped the tyres. No damage done but i'm not going to try and repeat it.
Pass the rice... ON THE RIGHTHAND SIDE!!!!
