hmmm, about a month ago i replaced the fan belt due to it almost snapping, was frayed quite badly......now a month later its done it again, was driving home, and snap....and lots of rubber flying around......
any ideas what could cause the fan belt to repeatably snap?

Have you checked all of your pulleys making sure there spinning freely(except for crankshaft) or maybe your belt tensioner if faulty.
I think wesley you said that you have a S/charged engine in your VN? Ive had a problem similar to your's where I kept changing the fanbelt on a customers s/charged VT and it kept throwing the belt. Ended up being the tensioner was misaligned and had to be replaced. It could as the previous post details a locked up tensioner pulley which when seizes throws the belt and destroys it!!
already replaced belt tensioner last time....will pull belt off again tomorrow to replace, and check pulleys....i suspect harmonic balancer or air conditioner.....
not supercharged....well not yet anyways...
the belt isn't snapped.....just fraying VERY badly on one of the edges.....will replace again.....too dangerous to drive with....GRRRR

if tensioners is ok,look at alternater, power steer, waterpump and crank pullies, just curious.....you are putting belt on correctly? lining it up with grooves....Originally Posted by Wesleyrpg
i'm tinking alternator or water pump pulley,as it takes a lot to bend, distort A/C,HB and even P/S..which side is it fraying?
you should be using a better quality belt if fitting to a supercharger, i'm not doubting that tensioner seized,as it is common,as for being distorted, very unusual for commodore, although this could be the reason for distortion, using wrong belt material on a blown /supercharged motorOriginally Posted by ScottB_33
drove car to mechanics this morning, ended up being harmonic balancer was stuffed (thanks greenfoam).
on the way HB got hungry and decided to eat into crank angle sensor, destroyting that as well, and caused me to breakdown 400m away from mechanics on the way there.
$300 repair job all in all

so there was no noises at all?to suggest HB was on it's way out, just chewing your belt?Originally Posted by Wesleyrpg
yeah there was noise in drive, idling at lights car wasnt happy......suspected that the HB was on its way out, shredding belts comfirmed this.

hey guys, i'm very new to this, but, i had the same problem, bout 6 mths ago i was on my way to work from the ex missus (now) place, and was traveling on the westgate fwy, and my belt snapped. chewed out the belt to smitherines, stuffed the harmonic, and CAS, but the funny thing was the belt was new and the harmonic was newish to, and all other pullys etc. were excellent, so i had to spend more of my hard earned cash on fixing the bitch again, g/f at the time wasn't happy cos i spent the money on the car and not her, but that's y she is now the ex!!!! but my harmonic and CAS were in worse condition than wesley's, it had broken the outer and middle part of the CAS, and bent harmonic blades on a 90 degree angle, let me tell you it's not the best thing for your eng and CAS to stop the eng so quickly at 100 k's
