Default Standard Problems with VN-VP... whats yours?

for some reason my centre console ash tray always gets chipped on the corner, so I have now replaced it 3 times and .... guess what its chipped off again!
also the rear left tail lights seem to fade alot in mine and other vn's I see around
Oh then there is the sagging hood lining I see quite often ..

    Whats yours?

Creaking dash, fan only works on high, map pockets broken, hoodlining stapled up and ashtray has two corners missing.

Sagging headlining, leaking rear main seal, and a boot full of water even when it just drizzles (still haven't got the bastard waterproof yet), sticky tacho (tap tap) and a bit of an oil leak from the left bank rocker cover gasket.

And some miserable arsehole stole one of my hubcaps, so now I've only got three.

Other than that...it's all good. LOL

My dash doesn't creak, but the centre console makes a bit of noise.

The switch binnacles stop working every now and again,

    Windscreen washer stopped working,

All the doors creak when I drive but I think thats because the door seals are worn

A/C only works on 3/4 and sometimes (especially in hotter weather ) the compressor stops running, and I have to switch it on and off and push and pull and slide buttons until it (hopefully) decides to turn back on...

Steering rack is in need of replacement...

Boot leaks, although I managed to reduce the leakage a lot, still need to find where else it's leaking through (I think through the spoiler bolt holes, they're not sealed properly anymore)

Oh, and the bonnet lid has come away from its bracing so it's floppy and a nuisance to clean.

my ol' vn calais used to have :
wiper switch broke off (f*ckin pain in the ass to try glue that back on)
crazy tachos..used to stick and sometime fly around everywhere, one time it said i was doin 200k/hr when i was just rollin down my driveway.
digital displays of dist to empty (etc) used to miss bits of numbers.
    leaking boot...easy fix with silicone.
rusted rear pillor and roof around the rear windscreen (could actually move the windscreen in and out before i got the rust cut out).
ofcourse sh*tty faded paint with crows-feet on roof and bonnet.
drivers seat always seemed to magically recline over night (just a little bit).
weird electrical problem with blowing lots of fuses (especially the aftermarket immobilser for some reason).
umm..i think thats about it, lol....well worth all the little problems, it never let me down and still went bloody hard for a 16yr old car.
oh..just remembered..had a problem with a stretched bonnet cable, it wouldnt open the bonnet.

    here's the list!!!
my vn calais wont start for at lleast 5 sec after sitting not fixed but spent 500 plus and counting, both screens rusted not fixed, central locking works sometimes, all door rubbers have come off but fixed with 3m tape, intake manifold gaskets redone, crank angle senor failed and fixed, steering rack leaks not fixed yet, roof lining sagged but fixed, auto antenna has a mind of its own, paint stuufed, seat backs fall back in time, plus more.
but i still love my VN it goes well and handles well and i would not swap it for the VT S1 clubbie i had before i went broke even if i had the chance! as it was still a VN in a dinner suite with a crappy fake irs system.

Leaking rear main seal, just had all bushes replaced only to find out strut towers need re-aligning and a strut brace, mechanic put V6 size front rotors on my beast instead of V8 ones, and of course crappy fading shit paint job, typical car manufacturers trying to save a dollar. If u r gonna do something, do it right the first time!!!!!!!!!

    man the list goes on,

Sagging roof lining, leaking main seal from when it was 3-4 yrs old until forever, cracked front screen from bonnet, sticky tacho gauges, fan only working on high level, went through crank angle sensor, harmonic balancer, wind screen wiper all cracked up, alarm stopped working, window on drivers side jumped outta cradle always broken, plastic buttons sticky occasionally not engaging, paint well and truely faded (crows feet), coil pack died. Even though all of these problems VN's are the greatest commodores Holden ever built.

Hehehe, well I've only had mine for a month and a bit so I don't know if It's one of those cars thats gonna take up all my weekends with fixing annoying little things. But when I got it it had a few of the things mentioned above, Faded left taillight (fixed for rego), slightly sticky tacho (I'll fix it eventually, being an auto it aint a big concern), corner chipped on ash tray (bah, irritating but not worth the trouble of replacing it), and the bloody panhard rod bushes (fixed for rego, pulled em out and there was NOTHING WRONG WITH THEM! ****ing idiot mechanic). Oh, almost forgot, crappy paintwork! Now that's a standard VN thing. :-)

All up, the beast is in decent mechanical condition and I'm working my arse off to keep it that way.

Yeah, same old story here. Faded paint, leaky taillights that fill up with water then drain into the boot, sagging headlining, broken headlight switch, crank angle sensor (twice), Antenna retracts about 2 inches too short, Air-con leaks water into the drivers footwell.

Whats with all the ashtrays with chipped corners, mine's ok. i only use it to put my mobile phone in.

Only smokers get the broken ashtrays
My central locking never works properly, remote locking never works at all.
Paint is starting to go on the front guards and my back tires keep going bald

So whats an easy way to fix a hood lining? and as for the water in the tail lights, I just drilled two tiny holes in the bottom (not noticable at all) and now no more water build up! any tiny bit in the glue/sticky stuff around that tail lights will cause leaking so time for more silicone!

    Default fixes

    Problem fixers!!!

The reason your tail lights are not bright is just your earth. For some F*$#ed up reason, Holden made the bayonet light holders contacts outta a crappy steel which corrodes easily, you can replace them, at a cost to you of course, or try:
    * pulling your globe out and cleaning up the contacts with a screwdriver or such
    * running a new earth directly from the light fixture to one of the bolts that hold your tail lights in... Worked for me!

Fan problems are usually caused by shit on the inside contact, simply pull your control panel out and you can see the contacts I am talking about, just clean up with emery paper or something similar.

The air con kicks in and out because the pressure switch on your air con canister is stuffed. Your Holden dealer or any good auto elec will be able to order you a new one, not that expensive!

The car won’t start because of a stuffed crank angle sensor or bent/corroded teeth on your harmonic balancer

The central is prob not working because the lock mechanism is seized (or about to seize). Pull your interior panel off your door and find the central lock mechanism.. Either pull out and clean right up or just empty a can of WD40 onto it. !!! lol

on my first engine, shit went left right and centre, it got to a point that i realized i could get a second hand motor in good nick for cheaper than i was spending

so for everything ive done/meaning to get done on the vn on both motors

    harmonic balancer
    tensioner pully
flywheel cracked (reason why i replaced the motor(though it was bearing sleeves rattling))
    o2 sensor
cracked exhuast manifolds (not too sure but engine makes airy sound when idleing(only really hear next to cars)
drive shaft bolts came a lil loose(middle bearing)
car rattles like an old hitachi train
some dash light (switches) are out
    fuel/temp gauges stick
    front seats a lil loose
seals come off on doors (loctite is dope)
roof sagging- stapled it to look like a classic couch

and yeah but thats over a lil bit of a period of time
    still love the car thou
drive it til i blow the motor then replace and repeat
