run some injector cleaning fluid throuhg the tank plus some premium, then do ya plugs and leads and that should get it goin, a fuel pump will die if it's stuuffed, also a fuel filter,
so first up get some injectpr cleaner $10 and a fuel filter 12$ and that should do it

also does it prime on igntion??

when it doent want to start pour a few litres of cold water over the crank angle sensor, it is at the front of the engine behind the biggest pulley that you u will have. that was my problem a couple of weeks ago, cost 150 to get change from mechanic's.

I was once told the good sign of the fuel pump going is when it runs buzz's when the car is well and truly sitting for more then 5 seconds off and wont shut off for a bit of time.
My car when i first got it was shit to start, I replaced the injectors and it starts perfect now, But i have other fuel issues.

Fuel pumps in VN's are really nice actually, if it's a problem with the pump they just stop working. If the pump is dying it will just keep working, but as soon as it dies, that's it, they stop.

Sounds like the problem is elsewhere, check your plugs/leads/coilpack. Work your way through the ignition system, then have a look at the fuel system (filter, injectors, pump, lines...)

try extracting a fault code could be a cts problem or if it hasnt had a full service also sounds like a lazy fuel pump

yeah dude, go to bursons and get one for about 170 do it yourself, or go to mechanic and the'll put it in for 300 (incluiding part), if it's a s2 go to a mechanic, their press fit and a real bitch to get off/on, if it's series 1 they just basically slide on and off, also if it is a series 1 i got a good one hear you can ahve for a few 10's of bucks, mabye 40-50
but yeah cracking the nut on the front is the worst part (when i did it i got a socket onto the crank, got a big bar (off a trolley jack) held on to it, hit remote start on my cars remote and held on for grim life, it cracked the nut but **** the feeling was dredful, still all in learning

if you replace the filter... take a good look at colour etc... lots of carbon means pump is on its way out. As I said before... those were the problems we were having with the Calais, & a couple times we just gave it a shove & it would start... but the spluttering gave us the shits & we got if fixed... $300 all seals etc & pump, filter.

first off get the right pulley comes off fairly easily and to crack the nut get a breaker bar on your socket and put the handle end on the ground instead of holding it and doing yourself some damage then crank the engine

I doubt it, mine was cracked for ages and my car run fine.. then one day it broke all together rubber everywhere and it was still running fine, it just made a massive tapping noise at idle speed.

Also, i got my nut off with my dads tapper gun, came off really easy.. i just had to remove the radiator to get the gun in there.

when im running over a half tank, the engine is perfect, like i flang the car out easy as, but when i get to about 1/4 tank the engine struggles, what does this mean, i thought it could b the pump cause when the tank is empty theres less pressure.. n e ideas?
