hey guys been watcnig my trip computer and trying to figure out if my vq has a 80 litre fuel tank how come my fuel warning light comes on after just using 55 litres when its supposed to come on when your down to 12 litres seems like i'm missing around 13 litres of fuel can anyone explain????
cheers
You can program when your fuel light comes on its in your owners manual how to do it
there is a switch on the dash cluster that has 80 or 60 litre tank (not sure if its 60 wat ever the small tank is) make sure that is switched onto 80 maybe?
When its in the mode showing the odometer display hold down the set button for a few secs and it will tell you the fuel left in the tank in litres in the centre window of the display.
If this doesnt agree with what actually is in the tank while still holding down the set button push either one of the the arrow buttons to adjust to the right amount and thats it all done....the warning chime and light will come on
when it gets to that 12 litres or so.

I have the same problem in my Calais.
I actually think that the fuel light gets tripped by the 'distance to empty' function.
In city driving, the fuel light comes on when the distance to empty drops to around 35 km, consistently. At this stage, the computer reckons I have used about 60-65 litres of fuel. This is always correct because I take note on what the fuel bowser says after I fill it up.
Its also related to the average fuel consumption. If you are crawling around town with a V8, that last 15 litres in the tank isn't going to get you far, hence why the fuel light comes on.
In highway driving, I remember the fuel light lighting up and I managed to get 72 litres of fuel in.
So there ya go, your trip computer is probably not out at all.
I don't know the answer to the following questions (hence why I'm asking them) but it may help anwer your initial question.
Does anyone:
1) Definitely have a stato (VQ-VSIII) with an 80 litre tank?
2) Or a station wagon or ute of the same age range with an 80 litre tank?
The reason I ask is that the owner's manual for my VSII V8 says it's only a 68 litre tank and no mention of an optional 80 litre tank. The maximum amount of fuel I've ever put in (62L) means it is definitely a 68 litre tank. The VS is an identical floorpan to the VQ (and stationwagon/ute) and your 55 litre warning light makes sense with a 68 litre tank.
Mark.
