    Default headlights stay on!

For some strange reason, holden decided it was a good idea to have the lights stay on when the key is at "off". (battery went flat yesterday )

if anyone is intrested i will post a simple how to, to make the headlights only come on when key is at on.

yeah, i used to do that, until i forgot one day.

the experience wasn't fun, i had to drive a rooted old corolla while the battery charged. that prompted me to do something, now i can never forget

it is fairly simple once you know which wires to use. (i'm going to tell you)

    you'll need
    relay
    connectors
    pliers

first, open the flap under the steering wheel the reveal the fusebox pic 1

find the wire bundle pic 2 and remove cable ties and tape

put a tapper on the brown, yellow stripe wire and the black wire pic3
(this is the power for the cigi lighter, wont affect the lighter)

find the white, black stripe wire, cut and place two female connectors on either end pic 4

    now connectin the relay,
the black wire goes on pin 85
    brown, yellow stripe 86
    white, black stripe 30 87

    pic 5

tie it all back up and wala. as soon as you turn the key on the relay will click activitating the headlight circut, then the switch will work the headlights. you can now turn the key off and the lights will dissapear like headlining above you.

the pics won't upload fo some reason. the big wire bundle goes from behind the fuse box and goes up towards the instrument cluster

Hahaha, actually I'd be more tempted to wire up a buzzer in parallel with the warning light that tells you that the lights are still on. Hard to imagine a scenario where you'd need to use the lights without the ignition on but I'm sure if I wired it up it'd become a problem.

I left the headlights on the other day at uni, I get halfway across the campus and one of my mates and his GF ring me up to tell me "You've left ya lights on ya dumb bogan!". Lucky.

i thought of the same situation, but the car has no central locking, so you have to have the key to get in to turn the lights on

You could use the door switch to supply a earth for another relay in the circuit so if the key is off and you open the door the lights go off (like my vr) but you need another relay to do it so when you shut the door again they dont come back on again.
