Hey peeps,
(it's nic's other half here!)
The VN Wag is running like a dog. Quick rundown is as follows,
- Little while ago needed to replace the exhaust manifold. Had a hole in it and the damn wag sounded like a Harley.....
- It's been serviced and had a tune up recently
Now recently (bout 2 weeks ago) it started sounding louder than normal....sortof like what it did when the exhaust manifold shat itself, but not as bad. She's been idling rough, and when u first drive it (after a few hours rest) it takes off in first fine, but when you shift into second it sortof dies for a few seconds, won't rev or anything no matter where the accel pedal is, and then just kicks in and drives..... Coming home from work today, when i went to take off, the accel pedal wouldn't kick in, and then all of a sudden would just rev the guts outta the motor.
Any ideas what could be causing any of this... I think that's all...
Well actually, i changed fuels recently from BP Ultimate because when using it and on a hot day the car was stalling and idling at the point of stalling all the time...Since switching to normal unleaded, that's been fine, so don't know if it has anything to do with it.
Thanks for any help guys.

If it's really rough at idle, and it's got a lot of lag on the accelerator, have a look at your ignition leads, spark plugs, and coil packs.
I had a lead die on me a while back, it had a bit of a miss at idle, and when I mashed the accelerator it had a think about a few things, THEN it would rev like crazy.

my VN ran like a dog, loud rough, only on four cylinders once and when i took it to the mechanics they said i has melted a part of my coilpack and replaced it
it could be alot of things. really need to start testing resistances of things like leads, coil packs, coolant temp sensor, look at plug condition, look at throttle position sensor readings, look at map sensor readings, make sure the harmonic balancer hasnt spun etc.. a tech-1 or equivilent would come in very handy here.

Ohh one more thing, today it had been sitting in the sun for a few hours, took about four goes to get it started (cranking for like 5 secs each time) and then when it did fire it was virtually stalling and i had to hold the accel in a bit before it would idle normally.

first thing I'd do is clean the throttle body..... get a can of carby cleaner and spray it. If it doesn't fix it then you;ve only wasted $5.... after that I'd go coil packs...
If you're going to clean the t/b do it properly, take it off, and using a rag soaked in carby cleaner give it a good scrubbing. Don't forget to clean up your IACV as well, those suckers get caked with carbon buildup and don't work too well.
