the other day after i filled my car it just started to really eat heaps of fuel, usually i can get a fair way on little fuel but a 100km drive drank like nearly half of thetank :| and the car is way hotter then usual, any ideas?
u blowin smoke or stinky exhust fumes???
if u are then its probbly runnin rich, more fuel being burnt means more heat,
any error codes??? (engine like icon in the dash cluster)
o2 sensor might be playing up, very common thing on a vn
i have a vp not a vn, no more fumes then usua;, no engine lights, car isnt smelling any different, its just chewing alot of fuel without driving like a madman like usual, i used 1/4 of a tank getting 90km is how bad it is atm, could it be something in the fuel (bad fuel) or just soome fuel related prob? im gonna get it serviced friday
When cold start back you car to a fence the night before and start it up, If there is any fumes you will smell it,
Myn sits right behind my gate doors, And when i start it up by the time i move to the gates to open them my head is about to explode from the fumes. at the rear. I have bad fuel economy also but it doesn't seem as bad as your is, Maybe have someone look at your fuel system when they serves it.

you been doing lots of 5-10min trips?
uhm i do a 15-20 min trip to work everyday, i dont smell any fumes and i got a new thermostat bout 4000k ago :|
90 per 1/4 tank isnt that bad...
thats what vn's average anyway
360-400 out of a tank...
could be fuel, wait till u fill up again, and try a diffrent brand, btw what fuel are u using???
say what...you should be getting at least 500-600 K's a tank,on unleaded....Originally Posted by PaRaDoX616
i used caltex unleaded i used HALF a tank on roughly 90-120km, thats ridiculous maybe high ethanol content?
have you done a diagnostic on your car?...i still say it's your thermostat...is it a genuine thermostat...some aftermarket ones can bugger up before 4000K's..the only other thing that i can think of with engine running warmer is faulty coolant temperature sensor operation, this can also interfere with fuel consumptionOriginally Posted by gocommygo
my oxy sensor looks like it was just removed from a fire.....Originally Posted by samuels
need a new one... infact most of the sensors on vn's are crap and gone
btw i drive into the city each day (well half way) stop/starting all the way i get 380-400
i drove to nsw got 768k out of a tank using cruize control NONSTOP for 4 hours that was doing 110km/h the entire way
i replaced all of my sensors on my car after it was running rich and fouling the plugs, i can get from berri to adelaide on a bit under 25 litres which is pretty good for an 8 over 230 k trip through the hills
dam not bad =D
still happy with my 768k =p efficiency for that trip was nutz... pitty i used the entire tank of fuel in 1 day =(
when i get my car serviced on friday im getting coolant temp sensor replaced, o2 sensor replaced, coolant changed, fuel related stuff checked out, and so on
that'll cost yuou an arm and a leg dude, head down to bursons and do it yourself, you'll save heaps
wheres the o2 sensor located ?
under bonnet?
passenger side exhaust manifold/extractors ..Originally Posted by richie_cky
