hi all,
i have a vn ss (supercharged if it matters).
everytime the car reaches operating temperature which is at the bar just under HALF, it stays on it, even on idle, or driving it without many stops. it never goes up, if it goes under it it will be 1mm barely anything.
it used to go down while i drove until i did a coolant flush and a thermostat change, the older thermostat was a colder one i think, i think this ones a hotter one. :my: i cant remember the termperature...
anyone got any ideas, is it normal to be at the bar just under the half one? Or should it change while i drive?![]()
Any ideas on whats a good thermostat for my vn so it can open up during mid tempratures not just at peak??![]()
THanks for your help.
Mine sits just under 1/4 but who knows you gage could be dead or anything, mine will get hotter if I am doing a 1/4 mile or something, sitting on 4-5000 rpms for a while
cool.
il try knocking the gauge n shit next time im out after i go for a long cruise n see if it drops if so il do the trick mentioned on the other page to fix the gauge.
also im about to get another thermostat.. and fit it it but one thing.
which way does the thermostat sit in a vn 5L, i realised that you can fit it in top to bottom and vice versa and confused me once which way it was meant to go back in..
can someone state briefly how like which poart of it sits at the bottom of the housing and which is the top?? coz they sit both ways without hassle..
if i put mine in the wrong way is this maybe why my gauge is playing up????
thanks for ur help.
Question 1 - Which way does the thermostat face - The temperature sensitive part goes towards the engine. The valve must look as though the water flow will close it and the valve opens against water flow. Water flow is from the engine via the top hose through the radiator and back into the water pump then block. Sorry for all those who know this.
Question 2 - Engine temperature variation. Mass produced gauges that are used in car dashes are and indication only and are not calibrated for true temperature. Themostats are stamped with a temperature but may open within an acceptable tolerance band around this temperature. If you have a good thermostat and the rest of the cooling system is in good working condition then it is possible for the temperature of the coolant to remain at a constant temperature once the coolant has reached the thermostats controlling temperature which will be a couple of degrees above the initial opening temperature that is usually stamped on the thermostat.
cool thanks buddy this is perfect. thanks heaps
i'd say too that the new thermostat is working properly.... its job is to keep engine water tempt at its setting.... engine water gets a bit cooler, thermostat close a bit..... engine water tempt gets a bit hotter, thermostat opens up a bit..... therefore keeping your engine tempt at the setting stamped on the thermostat...... within a few degrees but wouldnt really show a movement on the dash guage once up to operating tempt... my VX has a digital tempt reading in the computer... it showed 92 to 96 degrees from standing to moving but my guage just sat between the 1/4 and 1/2 mark and didnt show any tempt change at all....
