hey guys, ive herd that the vn manual t5 was also in the same year fords? is this true, as i fords are cheap as chips and i need the box
Yes this is true, but the ford box has a different input shaft and different ratios. But i am sure you could use the ford box and put the v6 input shaft on. Also i think the rear extension housing is slightly different from memory.
would it have the same internals, like could i use one and just take out the bottom shaft and put it in mine?
from what i seen dun touch a ford and if ur a holden owner why put a ford part in there ?? trator ??![]()
With Great Horsepower Comes Great Irresponsibility
the ratios wouldn't be different...the diff ratios are...2.90 in fords, hence giving you a different feel with the 5 speed.extenion housing looks the same to me...i know, you only said from memoryOriginally Posted by VN Calais 5.0
...but i could be wrong too..i'm looking at a picture...
The gear ratios are definately different from falcon 6 to holden v6
Holden V6 Ford 6
1 3.25:1 3.50:1
2 1.99:1 2.14:1
3 1.29:1 1.39:1
4 1.00:1 1.00:1
5 0.72:1 0.78:1
R 3.15:1 3.39:1
First gear is a lot taller in the holden box which will make the car rev out longer in first gear.
The lower 5th gear ratio in the ford box will make your v6 rev slightly higher at cruising speed than it does with the holden box.
ok, i went to the drak side last night (ford forums) and got some answer from them. now i gotta go wash the ford dirt of me
Re: commodore t5 in fords?
G'day,
there are so many versions of the T5 it isn't funny.
If you want to swap the whole box then you have a chance!
First thing you need is box lengths
A. From front face of housing to end of mainshaft
B. From front face of imput shaft to end of mainshaft
The spline on the input shaft however is the same.
On the falcons, there is a difference between 6 and 8 cylinder boxes in measurment B....exactly 20 mm ( iam unsure if this rings true for holdens)
If you can match up the measurements then the next port of call is spigot bearing size, then mount position on the extension housing.
My experience has shown that holden T5 installations are typically close ratio's and the fords are wide ratios.
IT is plausible, and if they measure up it can be done. If you do a lot of towing, then i would be searching for a box fitted to and ford commercial, as they have a low first and reverse.

i am pretty sure most VN owners have a ford part in there car, dont mean to be smart or anything but most VNs have a FORD interior light, i took mine out and realised it had written on it Ford, then i bought a calais one and realaised that is GM FORD as well,Originally Posted by mr_l_commodore
but yeah why do you want to put a ford box in there, not that much cheaper than a holden box
screw the extra expense stick with genuine holden parts !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
