Hi all.... i have a vn calais v8, and it has had the usual tailshaft vibrations when i accelerate hard off the mark, but yesterday the tail shaft (i presume) started making a noise like a jackhammer, and its only when accelerating.... so it may be a mount???
Has anyone ese had this problem? what should i check and look for???
Thanks guys
Possibly the uni worn out or the the counter weights are missing on the tailshaft.
Check if the tailshaft is loose/play.
Cheers
check the botls on the centre bearing, adn the bots from the uni to the diff, then see if it has ecsessive play
i had to replace my centre bearing as it was making a funky noise when i accelerated.....sounded more like a ticking sound tho not a jackhammer
maybe an exahust mount. Does it do it in N for no where
oh come to think of it, the muffler just before the diff, somtimes it comes off the rubber and when you turn a corner or go over a bump it bashes against the uni bolts at the diff, makes a **** of a noise, i got some mig wire a tied mine up so it cant miove
Sounds like my right now but it only did a miny jackhammer once hard take off, Unbalanced feel and all, My centre bearing needs replacing rebalanced etc but my uni are fine, If your in Vic go to the place i did MS Driveshafts McIntyre rd North Sunshine.

The mechanic said it would be cheaper to find a good tailshaft from the wrecker and just replace the whole lot....
$120 for the shaft, $100 to fit..... this sounds reasonable to me.... how about you guys????
$100 to fit it?? thats a load of crap, it takes a whole whopping 15 maybe 20 minutes to replace a tail shaft on a hoist. there would be no way i would pay $100 to get that done, do it yourself.Originally Posted by daves8
