Default Help!! How to remove the door strips

    Hi all,
Are VP and VN doors the same? The outer door strips are different on the two doors I have.
How do I remove the outer door strips and what do I need to stick them back on?

    Thanks for you help

Go to autobahn or similar type of car place and check out their range of K&H products. They have heavy duty spray adhesives, stuff for removing the gum left from old adhesives.(Wax & Grease Remover)

for kowans question...you just pull em off, carefully though, go to quick and you'll ripple the door skin.
to remove the urethane use a pinstrip remover then wax and grease remover.
use sikaflex to put the new ones back on.
as for jolly_97's question...to get the badges off just lift up a corner with your fingernail and then peel off the badge/sticker...use wax and grease remover to get the residual gum from the paintwork.

ummm... NOT a good idea to just pull them, as the paint may come with it
its the same principle as debadging a car, use heat to warm the glue under the selected area, then run dental floss under it and pull from side to side, you have to heat the glue otherwise it will leave lots of crap on the paint and take ages to remove, you will have around 17 years of crap build up so expect some hard scrubbing... polish it out and use fingernails if anything to assist removing it... dont use anything that will scratch the paint, if its got a crap build it it will take ages to do but will look ace =D

soooo, your talking about the door moulds then paradox??
i thought we were talkin about the badging....ok.door moulds, yes, it would be possible to take paint off, not very likely or common to happen if they are taken off slowly (like i said b4), but sikaflex is very strong so anything is possible...you'd be more likely to ripple the door than take paint off though.

yeah, but you have to watch out for stone chips, thats what can remove the paint entirely, and yes IhateRice i did read your post but fishing line cane be too thick for the job, dental floss isnt as strong but much finer and does the job better

sorry about the long time to reply, i lost this thread lol. i got a crash repairer to take my stripes/badge off, touch up all my stone chips and scratches, then give my car a buff and polish for $200. and yes, it does leave a bright white line (my car is white) where the sticker used to be because in reality, the paint underneath is brand new so hasnt been faded etc, once its been buffed and polished you dont notice though.

hey, sorry i took AGES to reply, i lost the thread lol. i ended up taking mine to a crash repairer and for $200 (pricey i know) he took off my stripes/badge, touched up all my stone chips and scratches, then buffed and polished my car. and yes the strips/badges do leave a diff colour underneath, in my case with my car being white, it left a BRIGHT white line because the paint that was revealed was virtually brand new, after its buffed though, you dont notice it...

argh my comp is killing me, sorry bout the double post, THAT WASNT MEANT TO HAPPEN!

I recently (finally) got around to swapping the doors moulds from my (damaged) S11 VP doors to the replacement S1 doors. This required removal of two sets of door moulds. In one case I cared about the only the doors and the other the moulds so could experiment a bit.

No go with dental floss (worth a try, I thought ), fishing line or copper wire. Best results with a narrow scraper to lift the end of the mould then pull the mould away, holding it as parallel to he door as is possible to avoid distorting it, and cutting the 'membrane' formed as the adhesive is stretched with a snap-off blade/knife. Care is required to avoid marking the paint with the knife.

Cleaning the adhesive off the doors was a bitch but I used a rag, solvent (initially thinners, which can take paint off, for the first part, then prepsol which won't for the last) and elbow grease.

I stuck the moulds back as per factory; Sikaflex adhesive and double sided tape to hold in place until the adhesive sets.

    VN-VS doors are interchangeable.

    Default removin those fugly doorstrips

there's two adhesives i found on my vs comm doorstrip, eucalyptus oil in a cheap plastic spray bottle and a persistent rub took care of the mild stuff no probs there. the sikaflex i sought advice for from a auto paints & supplies manager, removal of the sikaflex is taken care of with an electric drill mounted caramel wheel (rrp $15-) drill must be variable speed. skill is required for this & patience is vital. also acrylic paint with clear over is to be treated very carefully when you get the caramel wheel quite warm it will burnish areas that get too hot. sikaflex off twopack paint is i'm told alot easier to remove because you can apply slightly more pressure keeping the wheel moving along parallel with the doorskin. i'm not an expert myself i really thought this would be an easy task at first but man all the effort & time i spent the result is awesome, anyway folks didn't set out to write a stephen king novel here but all info helps and if your rides a commy you're ridin' the best.
